For use as striper bait  ;)

Yes, for bait.

Yes, shad darts, roostertails, and small spoons all work well.  I like going down to Fredericksburg to fish the Rappahannock (sp?), but the Potomac is good as well.

I have never done it but I hear it is a lot of fun.  The Georgetown area gets packed with shad and they will put up a d**n good fight on light line.  I have heard of people catching striper at the same time since they follow the shad in and have a feast.

I've only fished for them once...with darts, small spoons, and this thing they call a "piscator" rig...basically it's a 6 fly trot line.

Truth be told they were a hoot to catch and I'm told if you are out when they are hot you can catch 30-50 in a day.

I'm going to fly fish for them this year...already started tying up some flies.
