NOVA Reel cleaning?

There's a small place off Lee highway in Arlington, near the Starbucks ( ;D).  I can't think of the name of it at the moment.  It's really near Military Rd.  at elast I think he does reels.

I haven't used this guy as I do most of this sort of stuff myself.  I got the link from Steve Chaconas's site, and he recommends the guy.  It's only about 5 min from our house, so , I've been tempted.

Wayne P suggested him to me but I've never used him. I sent my stuff to JFrancho.

word, thanks. How are Johns prices? I just want to avoid shipping costs.

$20 for baitcasters. He did a fantastic job on mine. The shipping part sucks but it's not so bad if you get 4 or 5 done at once.

I don't charge for shipping on orders over $100.

photog francho cleans reels too??? what dont you do???

Not much, LOL. I collect and race vintage slot cars, play drums, guide, fish tourneys, do seminars on kayaking, and sometimes I'm even a father and a husband!

I used a guy named Ian, he did one of my fuegos, steez 103ha, tdz 100m and my pixilla build. He charges 20 bux per reel plus whatever parts are and then 10 bux for polishing/supertuning. The shipping killed me tho. It was 50 bux round trip for shipping. I used a flat rate box that just fit 4 reels, which was 14 bux but the insurance is a killer when you have 1200 bux worth of reels to ship. He did a great job imo. I had him do carbontex drag on all the reels, orange seal bearings on them all also and he polished/supertuned all my reels too. I also had him put my carbon handles and cork knobs while he was at it. I went all out pretty much. The reels are like works of art now.

interesting read! I'm looking for someone reputable to work on my reels too! Might give dominion a shot since i'd like to avoid shipping. I just had a horrible experience with UPS...

I used this place last year.  Did a great job on my Curados.  His prices are inline with pretty much every other place, so if you can save on shipping, it would be the way to.

Dominion for the win. But will support john when I have more than 5 reels to send.

Wow, dominion is almost accross the street from me, I wonder if he accepts drop off/pick up?  I've got a couple I wouldn't mind fixin' up. I'm gonna give him a call.

I just talked to Dominion and he (Jim) does accept drop offs and pick ups. Dropping my stuff off to him tomorrow after work! Hopefully he's good cuz he's only 10 minutes away!

Shipping scares me :( I just lost over $200 of merchandise cuz of UPS's stupidity.

Definitely will look into them for a custom rod though!

Shipping 4 reels in a small box through USPS Priority mail Click and Print is less than $10.  Insurance on $500 is about $7.  Never had an issue with the USPS.

J, what's your turn around right now? Dominion is 1.5 weeks.

Where do I go to find rates for insurance (over $500)? Do I have to go to the actual post office?  :(

You can get everything you need here, and its a few cents cheaper: http://www.usps.com/

TA is about the same right now.

Gave Jim at Dominion a shot since he's sooo close. Very nice guy! He's fished with Dave Mercer and JP Derose before.

Check out Phil at Rod n Reel Repair in Arlington, he does good work for reasonable prices. Turn-around time would probably be a bit quicker than shipping it out as well.

I dunno, I waited a week for him to fix one guide on a rod.

  • 3 weeks later...

Got my stuff back from Jim. Everything looks great, can't wait to get out and use it!

I'm still in awe over his boat  :o

Very nice guy and even gave me some spots to fish from my yak :)
