Whats the best bank fishing in Jacksonville, FL??

Featured Replies

I will be there for a week for work in June and want to know if there is somewhere to go in the evenings and fish. I would prefer bass but what else is there.

There's a small lake behind a store called Black Creek Outfitters on the corner of Gate Parkway/J Turner Butler... Probably my favorite shore fishing in Jax.  Sawgrass, where the PGA tournament is held, is also a great place for bass fishing.

Sweet sounds like what I was looking for. How big is it and any suggestions what to bring.

Well the outdoor shop that is there has a dock they let customers test run kayaks from.  They won't let you fish there during business hours, but I try to wake up early and get there before they open.  If that doesn't work, you can fish from the other side in the apartment complexes.  I usually throw Senkos and tubes, and the biggest fish I've pulled out of there was 4.5, but I've talked to guys who've been fishing it for years and they said on numerous occasions they've caught 10+lb fish.  Hope this helps  :)

I will be fishing in the evenings so I would have to fish the apartment side. What about the city parks such as Bethesda park, Kathryn Abbey Hanna, Earl Johnson, William F. Sheffield. Are the parks any good? I also found that Doctors Inlet has good wade fishing I may try that.

Surprisingly, I've never fished any of those parks.  Bethesda is a fish management area, so the fishing might be good there.  I live out at the beach, so most of those areas are a hike for me.  I do fish Davis Park quite a bit, and last summer and fall the fished seemed to bite anything.  I haven't had much luck this year, but I'm hoping the warm weather will change that.  I fished the area I told you about for about three hours on Saturday morning and didn't get a single bite.  I think I threw everything in my tackle bag.  You might want to give the other places a shot.

I'd like to know some good places as well.

There are a few ponds near the Kernan/JTB area that are pretty good and I've had some luck in the big pond out at cecil field but that's about it.

I've seen a few HUGE ponds out in the Ayrgle/Oakleaf area but I've never really tried to fish them.

Cmon now. I know there has to be some people from Jax on here that have some good spots. I don't know many but I'll gladly share what I know.

Both bases, Naval Air Station JAX and Mayport have ponds that I used to fish when I was stationed in Jax. There is a park just out side of the Mayport base that has a small lake. I caught many decent size Bass and Crappie out of there. Also, there are many spots down Heckscher Drive.

Kathryn Hanna Abby is the park by Mayport. They have boat rentals but they are only kayaks and paddleboats and they are expensive. I would use my float tube but I dont know if its allowed and I am a little worried about gators. :-/ Just curious how well could you fish the park lake from the shore.

I also hear the UNF campus has some ponds with decent fishing that sounds like the best option so far.

What's left of lake Fretwell at Cecil Field has been producing pretty well for me lately. My last time out I had about 7 or 8 good fish in about 1 1/2 hours. The water is pretty low in a lot of areas though because they had been pumping it out for some reason.

The place is over run with Gar though.

I really wish I knew someone with a small boat though. The far end of the lake is really hard to fish from land but I know there are some BIG bass down there.

Yup, that would be it. There is another pond towards the back that my buddy and I would hit but the sounds of baby gators just gave me the creeps. It made it really hard to concentrate.  ;D

Are there gators in it? I might try my tube in it if its legal.

Gators and GIANT Gar. I wouldn't be brave enough to tube it.

Yes what about lake wonder wood inside the base. It’s directly connected to the ocean ever see anything of catch anything crazy in there

No, but the freshwater lakes in Hannah park have a lot of fish in there. Kinda murky water so it’s a challenge to fish for bass. Double digit fish have beeN caught there though
