adding salt to the wound?

Featured Replies

I am watching the news and they just showed a car that was used as a car bomb.  It was an old pacer!!

That car is an American icon!!  How many folks here got into trouble in high school driving around in the classic fishbowl American automobile.

Seeing that hurt!

The Pacer?, a icon? LBH, the Pacer was no loss. That car was obviously created by a auto engineer whom smoked entirely too much weed, lol. ;D

My HS car was an 85 Ford Escort diesel station wagon.  It had 160K miles on it when I got it.  Ran it for a year before the engine blew.  Filled it up once a month.

I miss that car.  :'(

Nope, no dope, it was the disco music spirit what inspired the design of the Pacer and Gremlin.

Are they sure it was a car bomb, or did some one rear end it and it just exploded?

Well, Pintos had the annoying habit of catching fire when rear ended ....  :-X

C'mon,....there was dope involved SOMWHERE in that development meeting.

The "tennis shoe" was my first new car. My dad bought me an orange Gremlin that the dealer couldn't give away! $1800 and I drove it all through college, 173,000 miles! I was a piece of pooh-pooh, but I drove it until it died (no back window, no battery (parked on a hill to start it), passenger door didn't open, bald tires, leaky radiator...I could go on.)

Then I bought a new Ford Grenada in 1976. I should have kept the Gremlin! :'(

LBH,

The Pacer was no "icon" and there was no dope involved in the development of that thing...I think it was developed by a bunch of up tight moms and dads so that any activity inside would be seen by everybody in the outside world! There was no drinkin', no smokin' and no back seat olympics in that car without any one and everyone seeing it! That is for certain. ;D

That car came out when I was in high school and I remember the "raves" :-? it got when a couple of 'em showed up in the campus parking lot.

You have to admit one thing, the color palette for them was ...... "original"  ;)

I think the pacer was a brilliant design that came 30 years too early.

Just think with all the half blind geriatrics driving around these days,

a car that has 360 degree vision, is brilliant.

Gremlin, Pacer, Vega, & Pintos are all icons of a bygone era

I had a buddy who had a 1972 Gremlin X that came stock with a 304 cu. in. V8; we bored, stroke, blue printed and balanced it. That ugly little mellow yellow thing was actually fast, couldn't keep up with my Hurst Olds Cutlass but it wasn't bad.
