Cool!  Robert, I hope it's a smashing success!

awesome. Keep us posted Robert. What are the laws for online alcohol sales? If you can take an order from a BassResource member in St. Louis, I want to be one of your first customers! ;D

That's great Robert!! Someone needs to get something from tequlia other than scars and memories :-[...

Thanks for the good wishes guys, they are very much appreciated.  I am working on the online sales portion, so yes you will be able to buy online here through BR as soon as I become a board sponsor.  :)

As far as the name, that was one of the first things I had decided.  The shop, having been in the family for over 70 years now, has always been known as "El Puente" gift shop.  El puente transates to "the bridge".  That is how I see this shop - a bridge from the old to the new.  I am keeping the name, as an homage to my Great Uncle Nash that started the shop back in the the '30s.  The name will be "El Puente Tequileria"

Great news, Great story and Good luck Robert!

I might have to check out some of this top dollar tequila.  ;)

Congratulations, Robert.  Good story.  Keep us posted.

Good work, Robert!  Its great to see someone with so much pride in their heritage and community!  Best of luck to you, and let us know when we can buy online!

Best of luck to you, Robert!! There certainly are a lot of tequila drinkers out here in So CA!!

Good luck to you.

I have a question about the posted comment on the article. The person who responded seems less-than-enthusiastic about the idea of "high end" in that area. Is there some sort of traditional vs. modern dichotomy in regards to the proposed changes in this district? Is this person part of a larger group, or an isolated grouch?

Fantastic.

Congrats from one business owner to another.

I know you will do great!

Good luck and if and when we ever make it out to California we will have to look you up.

Did you get the old Chevy ad I sent to you via e-mail?  I thought you would enjoy it.

And send us some pics of the store and your stock.

Thanks for the good wishes guys.  I'm really looking forward to getting this place going.  I'm planning a fairly substantial pairing event in the coming months, will keep you all posted.

Best of luck Robert. Nice to see you are keeping the family business name in tack.

I just read the comment.  Not too sure where it's coming from, all I can tell you is that based on the FACT that Olvera Street is the birthplace of Los Angeles, the shop I am opening really does fall into place with the historical signifigance of the area.  Tequila, whether you pay $10 for a cheap mixto or $400 for a extra anejo, is still in some shape or form tequila.  I simply refuse to carry the cheap mixto's.   If that makes me a "yuppie", then so be it.

Good luck, Robert. Nice touch, keeping the family tradition alive.

When you get the online thing going, I want some. Not the $400 a bottle stuff, but something better than my old friend Jose C.

Cheers,

GK
