Best Baseball Movie

With Basspro48 excited about his upcoming baseball season and the majors already in Florida forspring training, I was thinking of my favorite baseball move.

So I was wondering what is your favorite baseball movie?

My favorite baseball movie is...Bull Durham.

I loved the scene when the pitcher nailed the bull mascot with the pitch.

OK guys, name your favorite baseball movie and any favorite scenes from them.

My favorite has got to be the "Natural".   Just good old fashioned baseball fun.  And my favorite scene is when that one guy on the team puts the patch on his shirt with the lightningbolt.  And everyone makes fun of him.  Then as he gets hits, the entire team starts wearing patches.  Me second favorite scene is where Roy hits the skin off the ball :)

Of course I read the book some years later and was sad :(  BIG difference in the ending of the book lol.

Field of Dreams.

(Actually the point of the movie has nothing to do with baseball, but the whole thing revolves around the sport.)

Drama: The Natural

Comedy: Major League

Honorable mention would go to "61" and "The Sandlot".

O.K.  I might get ribbed for this, but I also though "A League of Their Own" was really funny. (the thought of John Lovitz interacting with that ugly girl makes me laugh)

For some reason, I have a natural distaste for Kevin Costner, though Bull Durham is good movie. Maybe I'm just jealous.

I thought The Rookie, with Dennis Quaid, gave a pretty realistic picture of the baseball life and the aspirations of so many guys  trying to break into the game. I do enjoy The Natural, but then again I'm a big Redford fan.

Don't be embarrassed at liking A League of Their Own. Tom Hanks is a riot in it. At softball camp one summer, my daughter met one of the women depicted in the movie. She was tough as nails, and we still have her autograph somewhere.

"D*mn Yankees" (may have been the inspiration for "The Natural"!)

"The Natural"

"Pride of the Yankees"

"Major League"

"A League of Their Own"

"61"

"The Babe" (with John Goodman)

"Angles in the Outfield" (corny, but funny and heart lifting)

"Bull Duram"

"Long Gone" (HBO movie that was hilarious)

"Field of Dreams" (honorable mention)

Those are ALL pretty darn good baseball movies. "d**n Yankees" with Tab Hunter and Ray Walston has been a favorite of mine for many, many years!! "Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets!"

I also love the Twilight Zone episode that I think is called "Mighty Casey" where Casey is a robot pitcher. I always crack up when Jack Warden spells robot "robbott" to Casey's inventor!!

Field of Dreams: Baseball was a big thing for me and my dad, I miss him most now, every season we watched a lot of games together , before he passed

MAJOR LEAGUE, Especially Bob Uecker, great funny job as a ML announcer ;D

Bull Durham,For love of the game, The Natural.

I foregot about Long Gone, that was a good movie.

The Sandlot...one of the funniest movies of all time

The Rookie

Rookie of the Year

Bull Durham followed by For The Love of The Game

The Bad News Bears.

The Bad News Bears.

Agreed.  The original I presume.  Walter Matthau was the best in the role of the coach (Buttermaker, I think was his name).

I forgot about "The Rookie".  I would probably put it over "The Natural" as my favorite.  I would put it up there as one of my top three favorite sports movies.

I forgot about the original Bad New Bears. Great movie.

And for me to say that I liked D**m Yankess means that I am old. But I saw the movie and play so I guess I am old.

"alright vaughn, they tell us you're a pitcher. You're sure not much of a dresser. We wear caps and sleeves at this level son."

That cannot be repeated here.  :-X

I can't think of a baseball movie that I didn't like, but The Rookie one of my all time favorties.  There is another one that I believe Kevin Costner was in where he is trying to decide whether to retire to make room for some new player and the entire movie is flash backs of his life and career.  Can't remember the name, only saw it once, but it was good and I don't think it has been mentioned.
