one of those guys

Recommended Posts

When I am not bass fishing, I like to go down to the pier to catch trout and redfish. Every time I am there I see at least 3-4 people using a spinning reel upside down  ;D

Needlees to say, I always chuckle to myself. I always think of saying something to them but figure they will just get mad and it will start an argument.

Have any of you seen one of these idiots?

While I don't refer to them as idiots,  yes.

I hate to see people fishing with a spinning reel upside down, my wife had a freind that use to do that until I showed her how to switch the handle to the left side. The only people around here that do that are tourists that do not know any better. These are also the same people that try to fish off the pier with a small freshwater outfit and three ounces of lead tied to the line.

That is pretty funny. I mean come on, it can not be that hard to switch the handle. Darn lazyness, The new American Ideal.

Seen an person do this before with like a 9 foot heavy action surf fishing rod but with a little bobber and worm attached to it... I wonder how big they think the bluegill in the lake are  ;D

The one that really makes me do a double take is the guy who mount a spinning reel on a pistol grip casting rod and cast and reels with the reel upside down.

I do a lot of fishing from the bank at a small lake near my home and I see lots of this sort of thing - I usually strike up a conversation and, if the person seems approachable, I will offer suggestions.  Most people really appreciate the help and some times I have a more enjoyable trip from this than from the fishing itself.

I do see this quite often.  While I do chuckle inside, I will usually suggest trying to turn the reel over and switching the handle.  It's hard sometimes to remember, but we all started somewhere.  This might be the little bit it takes to turn somebody into a life long fisherman.

Take Care

I see it all the time especially in Florida with all the tourist who have never fished.  I use to do tons of pier fishing for Snook when I was a kid and could always tell who the tourist were by the way they held their reels.  Anyway, whatever they were having fun and ignorance is bliss.

Like nails on a chalk-board to me. I usually try to help them out though.

Even funnier are people who believe spinner reels are for idiots  ;)

They need this dummy proof rod that I found in the garage the other day. It is an old Kermit rod that is about 28 inches long, and has the reel built into the rod handle.
