Large Sprite and a medium popcorn around here will run you about $7.

Better than $25.  It's the nature of the beast, just like $1.75 bottles of Coke and $0.90 candy bars at gas stations.

Why pay 7.00 to watch a movie for one night when you can save $2-3 and watch it up to 5 nights.

I've said it before (not here) Better to put 50 people in the theater at $3.00 a head than 10 people at $7.00.  Why not sell 100 boxes of popcorn at $2.00 than 20 at $5.00?  You do the math.  I know I stay away from most movies for exactly those reasons.  I have to be darn sure I'm going to like the movie before I go.  At a cheaper price, I might be more willing to take a chance.  Nothing more infuriating than spending $30 or $40 and then hating the movie.  (Felt that way after Indiana Jones IV)

Exactly what I think.   I dont go to the movies very often at all because of the high prices.

I didn't say it was acceptable but compared to 25.50$ its manageable.

95% of ticket prices to get into the theater goes right to the movie distributors.  In some cases its more than 95%.  The theaters only make money off concessions.  Thats why the prices are so outragously high.

So they really cant charge 3$ a head to get more people into the theater.  If it makes you feel better going to a theater and paying those prices, just think that you are helping to employ someone at that location.

A friend of mine actually ran one of those 1$ movie theaters that play slightly older movies.  He was telling me that he LOST money by charging 1$ for entry.  But made money only from the popcorn/drinks.  He even moved the ticket counter to the concession stand to bring up sales lol

But usually the theater makes no money off ticket prices.  Just concessions.

That is the catch for people who are just starting to date, you cant complain about the prices otherwise you look cheap!  Cheaper to marry them and rent videos lol

In my hometown we have a drive-in theatre that shows new movies and the children have always got in free.  Recently one of the big studios raised a fuss about this and wanted the owner to start charging for kids tickets. I believe he told them to shove it.

we try to wait until it hits the dollar theater.  the cokes and popcorn is still high, but not AS high, plus it only costs a buck for the ticket!!

I only go when it's a must see, usually I can wait until it hits dvd. This summer I've only seen 1 movie because I took my sister to see Wall-E.

Has it crossed your minds to possibly not go or if you go to possibly not buy their over-priced food and drink ??????????????????? Just wondering.

I "had" to go see "Iron Man" last month. $8.50 for the ticket, $5.00 for a small coke, and $5.00 for a small popcorn that wasn't even as much as one of those microwave bags. Told my wife when I got home that that was the LAST time I'd ever go unless it was to the Drive-In where I can take my own drinks and snacks. Movie was pretty good, IMO, but not worth $20.00 to see. I know the concessions are where all the money is made, but geesh, come on... $5.00 for less than 10 cents worth of popcorn that didn't even have butter on it.

Here is a better idea for everyone,

Add up the number of movies you go see every year, then multiply that by the average cost per movie. I would say on average most Families spend between $500 and $700 per year on going to the movies. Thats without the cost of gas calculated in either. Now the way i see it, if you drop $3k-$5k on a really nice home entertainment system and just wait till the movie comes out on DVD you actually save money in the long run. But dont really sacrifice the viewing experience.

This is why i rent movies. :-/

On a rare occasion do i go out....maybe once every 3 months or so if that.

My best friend works movies,none of the ticket sales benefits the theatre..only the concession stands.Which is why they don't want you bringing in your own food.
