There are land crabs in Hawaii, they don't get as big but they are afraid of nothing.

I am not gonna lie; I see something like that taking out the trash, I'm gonna shriek like a little girl!

Eat a hermit crab and find out.  That's all they really are - super big hermit crabs without the shell.
