My 4th grade daughters math homework.

Recommended Posts

My daughters 4th grade math homework sure had me burning up brain cells I have not used in awhile. It was a little embarrassing  :-[ and I can't even begin to tell you guys how long it took for me to explain it to her. I am gonna post up some of the question to see how you guys do. ;D If nothing else I can check your answers to see if mine are right. LOL  ;D

Here goes

#1

I am a 4-digit number. My ones digit is 2. My tens digit is 4 greater than my ones digit. My hundreds and thousands digits are both 3 greater than my ones digit.

#2

I am a 4-digit number greater than 9,000. My ones digit is 3 and my hundreds digit is the smallest prime number greater than 5. The sum of my digits is 20.

#3

I am a 5-digit number greater than 30,000 and less than 40,000. My first and last digits are the same. The sum of my thousands, hundreds, and tens digits is 15. My tens digit is 4 times as great as my hundreds digit.

#4

I am a number greater than 40,000 and less than 60,000. My ones digit and tens digit are the same. My ten-thousands digit is 1 less than 3 times the sum of my ones digit and tens digit. My thousands digit is half my hundreds digit, and the sum of those two digits is 9.

 New show coming out

"So you think you are smarter than a 4th Grader "

Mrs M, We have 2 4th graders so we have to go through it twice to treat them individual.

It has been ridiculous, 1.5hrs of homework every night for 9 yr olds.

Of course it has absolutely nothing to do with being too old ( 49) to have 9yr olds!!  LOL

I'm the only one that answers 5582.

"4 greater" = 4 + and 4 + 2 = 6   ;)

These are the assignments in class where I ask myself how this is going to help me in life.... ::)

It teaches you critical thinking skills and how to apply logic to problems.  These are the types of problems that should receive a lot of focus.

Hookem, I got through calculus in college by a very thin margin. It's the one math course that I REALLY struggled with. I wish you the best.

BTW, I answered the first three questions with no problem. When I combined the forth question with my forth glass of wine, I didn't even bother. ;D :-[

I can do anything, as long as it makes sense.  Calculus makes zero sense.

Our teacher is nothing short of a super math genius.  Today, he showed us some of the harder problems we'd learn how to solve near the end of the year.  I played Block Dude. (I haven't beat level 11 yet ;D)

Anybody want to help me with my calculus? ;D

...seriously :-[

I can quote the Scarecrows line from the wizard of Oz movie

Would that count as help?

Seriously Calculus ( functions ) do make perfect sense in some cases for electronics theory. I could be confusing it with analyitic geometry as they taught part of both together in one class.

OK, so here is one back to you.

I have in my hand two United States coins that add up to $.55.

But one is not a nickle.

What are the two coins????

Answer -

A fifty-cent piece and a nickle.

I said one was not a nickle.  That one is the fifty-cent piece.  ;D

I'm taking 30hrs of concurrent credit this year. I'll have around 50 when I graduate high school.

Oops, I misread that the tens digit is 4 times greater, not just  4 greater.

As to the 5s, why not, they're supposed to be 3 greater than the ones digit?

What ever happened to 1+1? do you now have to tell why it is 2? Man I could do math until they put letters with it. By the way I am starting a petition to put numbers back in math. Anybody with me?

I'll sign.

My teacher was talking about limits today, about how you could always divide a distance by 2 and never reach your destination.  I told him that I applied the same limits to my homework.  I am trying to do it, getting closer and closer with each move, but it never gets finished.
