two well-placed shots with his .270-caliber

If the shots were well placed, one would have done it.

The deer ran a short distance and went down, and died after Goodman fired two more shots.

I sure wasn't there but anyone needing 4 shots with a .270 to kill a whitetail, may be not telling the whole story....

Well, anyone that has ever hunted with a .270 would know exactly

that what you're saying is more than just "an opinion".

::)

that was one angry deer, he must have been on steriods

In the spirit of full disclosure, I once fired a second shot into an antelope... I thought he was "out on his feet" but realized after the 2nd shot that he literally hung in the fence and couldn't fall over. ;D

Thats a neat mount flechero!

I don't think he's telling the whole story. A .270 is not a very powerfull gun, but 2 well placed shots should have put it down.

It's been awhile since I hunted much but I do remember a few things.

a) My uncle hunted with a 270 and I prefer the 30-30.

2) The 270 bullet weighs about half that of the 30-30 but has a much higher muzzle velocity.

and C) The last deer I shot, he spun around and dropped on the spot but the bullet did not exit.  The last deer I saw that had been shot with a 270 had  a tiny entrance wound and a missing shoulder on the exit side.

I would be interested to know just how much meat would be left after 4 270 rounds went through.

Depends on shot placement and bullet construction.

My .270 does just fine on our mule deer, and I know several people who do just fine shooting elk with .270's.  It is not the gun, but the shooter.
