My son's first fishing trip

Featured Replies

Here's a few pics of my son,Jonah, on his first fishing trip. I had to test out some new gear and figured I'd bring him along with the shakespeare rod that he picked out last time we were at Dick's.

He's got a little crankbait at the end with no hooks. Now he can't cast but he loves to slap the water with the lure and say "Dad Fish". I'm pretty sure I have the next KVD on my hands.

Thats some good stuff, how old is your boy?  My son just turned two and I cannot wait to take him out fishing/water splashing.

Thank's guys. My son is 1 year and 10 months right now. He has no idea what fishing is but he knows I like it, therefore he likes it right now also.

thats great to see kids that young into fishing

I put a weightless fluke on my 2.5 year old daughters rod with a hook because I want her to catch a bass on her own.  Its a 3' barbie pole (actually its mine).  Maybe The hook is a bad idea now.

I still have to cast it but she loves to reel.   Man she cries when its time to go--just like her daddy

I don't think there's anything wrong with the hook.  As long as the fluke is t-rigged, she shouldn't get hooked.  I first let my daughter fish with small spinnerbaits.  I think they need to learn to hook one up as soon as possible.  That's what will get THEM hooked!

Wagn-

Perhaps after a few trips you could install a smaller (weedless) hook on there (if you watch him closely).

My favorite fishing trip of all time was my daughters first trip out

Our dog drank all the water out of the minnow bucket

She and my niece were having races with the night crawlers

She then caught her first bluegill and said SHOW ME HOW TO PUT IT BACK DADDY

G I am glad you have this experience it is truely a right of passage . 8-)

Get him a life jacket even shore fishing.  My dad and I found that out with my nephew, look away for 2 seconds and the next thing you know a kid is sinking in the water.  Not fun but great pictures.

I must say......totally awesome!  Getting a pole in his hands at that age is great.  My pops had me catching fish around the age of 4 (he told me my first fish was a bullhead).  I started fishing on my own and avidly since about 10, and i'll never give it up!
