So I was praticing in the backyard...

Featured Replies

I was in the backyard today, practicing pitching a jig and pig because I wanted to learn how. I was kind of struggling, but kept at it for a while. 10 minutes into my practice session, I see this small bird zoom past me. My first thought was "was that bird trying to eat my jig?". Anyway, I never mind him and kept on practicing. Several minutes after, I see the same bird this time actually trying to eat my jig as I just let it sit on the grass. So I moved the jig to the right and it went after it. I swung the jig around and the bird flew in circles chasing after it. It was the funniest thing ever. I wasn't going to let 1 bird ruin my day, but I ended up leaving because he brought a big crew with him. There were about 5 birds eying my jig and was ready to eat it. So I left, anyone else have this happen to them? I wonder what they thought the jig was. It sure looks good though.

So here's my jig combo, It's a Green Pumpkin Booyah Boo Jig with a black Paca Chunk.

the same thing happened to me when I was learning to pitch in my back yard.

Never had that happen with birds, but plenty of times with cats.

BTW, that is a nice looking jig combo!!!!!!!!

Never had that happen. That's funny though.

FYI, if you are fishing out of a boat get yourself a foot stool to stand on while you practice. This will make you above the grass just about the height you would be above the water while standing in the boat. Makes for a more accurate pitch and flipping senario. If not you will find that your technique and timing will be off.

Yep, when I was practicing, I was on higher ground.

Ohh and an OWL!!! Must of been cool... I been out for a while now trying to find an owl. I hear one always making noise near by, but can't find him.

my dad caught an owl on a Jitter-bug before. he heard a huge splash and set the hook. suddenly his lure was upwards of 15 feet in the air in a tree. he thought about trying to 'land it'; but his better judgement had him cut the line.

That must have been an odd feeling. You expect the line to go to deeper water and instead it starts heading up towards the clouds. lmao

I got a good one along these lines.  In high school a buddy of mine caught a bat in mid air on a crappie jig while night fishing.  At least we didnt get skunked that night

I have had owls, and kingfishers grab frogs as I swam then over hydrilia, I also have caught water turkeys on top waters and a squirrel on a trick worm in my front yard, I was practicing casting pitched next to the tree and the little guy grabbed it.

I had a seagull grab my Rapala in midair some years ago. Like fighting a kite. He didn't even thank me when I took the hook out.

Didn't bite me either.

I've never had that happen, but that's a cool story. Your jig combo looks awesome.  If I were a bird, I would try to eat it too!@  ;D

I asked my gf if she would eat it and she's like... I think your fishing stuff is ugly, but I would eat that...  ;D

My partner had the same thing happen in a tournament in Springfield, Illinois.  An owl was swooping at his spook and he pulled it away as the owl sat on the "perfect laydown."  Since he didn't want to catch an owl, he wouldn't cast to that spot, but I did with my buzzbait and the owl flew away.

I'm just glad that my partner didn't actually land the owl.

When I was learning to fly cast in my back yard I was using a gold bead head nymph with duct tape on the hook to keep it from hanging up in the grass. .I still managed to hook a bat in mid air. They do have some awesome radar!
