Yellow jacket sting.

Featured Replies

Last night when I was getting off the computer I got stung by a yellow jacket. I did not know what it was one intill I saw a few pictures of one online. Well the spot swelled up a bit and hurt. Then I was talking to my mom to ask her if I have a allgery to be stings. According her she doesn't know. Because I was 22 when got stung for the first time. As I was talking to her I felt like I had a good buzz from a few beers going on. This was a few hours after getting stung. Slurred speech and Confusion were the only things I had wrong with me. So is this normal, or do I have a allgery? I felt fine when I woke up this morning and still felling good.

Reading your post, slurred speech and confusion sound normal. :D

Swelling and itching are normal. The other reactions are of some concern. Maybe go to a clinic or ER and ask.

Sorry It should be fixed. I wore my self out today running across town getting parts for a car. I wish I could go to a clinic or some place like that. I cant because I don't have insurance. I just figured I would ask here because some one else might be allegric.

I would say that your next sting will be the big reaction. Slurred speech confusion and a buzz should only be normal if you're tanked. Next time you get stung if those symptoms start sooner and are more intense you will need to get to the ER.

Agreed.  Those aren't "normal" symptoms unless you are having an allergic reaction (or you're tanked).

You need to be stung at least twice, on separate occasions to determine if you're allergic. The second instance is when it shows up, though I as well suspect you are. You should be able to pick up a bee sting kit locally. Keep one around at all times, one at work, one in the car, one at home....

When i get stung by a yellowjacket i start itching on the top of my head and it gradualy speads to the rest of my body. The dizzyness doesnt start till after ive had my shot most of the time. I think most poelpe react different depending on the severity of their allergy.

Uhhhh, excuse me guys....

But Yellowjackets "do not sting".... > they bite.

Yes, I suppose somebody can have an allergic reaction to the bite of a Yellowjacket, just as they could, to the sting of Bees, Wasps, etc.

In that case, I sure wouldn't spend any time asking about that situation on an Internet forum.

I'd say if a person thinks they are having an alergic reaction to any kind of a bite or sting, seek immediate medical attention, or call 911.

For myself on the other hand, I once picked up an old aluminum can, intending to use it for target practice. As I walked out to set it in place, I felt something that felt like dirt pouring out of it, over my hand. As I got to where I wanted to set it, my hand startled to tingle a little. I look down to see about 50 Yellowjackets biting all over my hand.

My hand tingled for about 15 minutes afterwards, while I counted like 30 bites. After about an hour, my hand felt totally normal, with no sign of a bite ? What I learned from this is, "Yellow Jackets can't touch this" ;-)  LOL

Peace,

Fish

From what I read, they sting and bite.  I guess they like to hurt you from both ends.

You are offcially the toughest guy I know.  Have no clue how you could have 50 yellowjackets biting you and not know.  Are you related to Chuck Norris?

I can tell you from when I ran over a nest of some yellowjackety type things with my lawnmower, I had half a dozen run up the leg of my shorts, the lazy ones (which were my favorite), just got me in the ankle and shin. While it did induce me into a crazed running/dance like movement to the hose and had me stripping in my back yard, I can say breathing and dizziness were not any symptom.

I would say anything above mild irritation and pain I would have looked at. I have seen kids who had reactions, and you barely had time to get an epi-pen in them. Since you have no insurance and would most likely wait till your eyes bled before going in, I would suggest see if you can get your hands on an epi-pen or 2 (not sure if they require prescriptions or not), look for a free clinic, or something and if it happens again and you start to sense difficulty breathing, call 911 RIGHT AWAY.

My moms boy friend also said I might need a prescription also. This weekend we found one walking across the basment. My grandma saw it before I steped on it. So this weekend iam going to try to find were there coming in from. It was the third one I have found in the basement.

I watched a medical show that had a great explanation on B-stings. You are either allergic or not. The first sting just sets up the future. The second sting is where it really shows up first ( sorry for the pun ). Ea sting thereafter has the potential to be worse .

DIZZYNESS AND SLURRED SPEECH ARE PROBABY NOTHING TO TAKE LIGHTLY.

At your age private insurance ( with a good medical history ) can be very affordable. It is possibly more expensive if you've had a lapse.

You might consider some sacrifice to afford insurance whether its a different career or whatever needs to be done. Your state might have some sort of assistance as well.
