Exchange it for another. I test all hard baits before using them.

Well, for most of my lures this might actually be the only time

they ever get wet! Anyhow, I would simply return the lure.

Sometime during a crankbait's life it will probably get out of tune. This is where a crankbait runs left or right, rather than straight back to the boat. In doing so, the crankbait will no longer be reaching its maximum depth. To correct this problem, all the angler needs to do is take a small pair of needle-noise pliers and bend the small eye where the line is attached in the opposite direction from which it is running (assuming the angler is looking straight on from the front of the crankbait). Be gentle when performing this action; it only takes a little movement to correct the problem. Cast the lure out and repeat the process until the lure runs straight and true back to the boat.

I've found that the small channel lock pliers that came in the old ignition tool kits work very well for these adjustments.  They have a firmer hold than the needlenose pliers I've tried and it's easier to tell when you've actually moved the eye of the lure.

Ditto grimlin. Check all plugs and tune.

I use one of these to tune baits.
