The reason I asked is because it's the best grass rig there is.

I caught my personal best 9.98lbs bass on a version of the splitshot rig. It's called the mojo rig and I was useing a 1/16th oz weight and 6lb flurocarbon on a noodle of a rod.

Suggestions for split-shot rig.

1.  Use a round split-shot. That means one without the lip on it to squeeze the sinker on and off. Less slop or grass will get caught on the round sinker if it does not have the lip on it.

2.  Use a lightweight #1 or 1/0 hook.  I use a small #1 circle hook or a #1 gold hook.  Make sure the hook is lightweight.

3.  Go with the watermealon or pumpkinseed colors in your finesse worm. A small, skinny worm works great as it has a lot of action.

4.  Put the round weight about 12 to 18 inches up the line from the hook.

5.  Use 8 pound line.  You may want to go as low as 6 or as high as 10, but remember, this is a finesse presentation and 6 or 8 pound test flouro works great.

6.  I use a spinning rig as I like the lightweight presentation, which you will need to be sucessful with this setup.

Rig it up and cast it out.  Lots of fun to fish and you can catch both small and large bass, bream, crappie and white perch with this rig, not to mention our old friend, the catfish.

Have fun.  :)

Gremlin makes a split shot called a Bull shot.  It's a pinch on bullet weight style split shot and had to made for this type of fishing.

i think the smaller the bait for split shot the better. as far as wieght, use the lightest you can get a way with. 4 inch finnese worms, 3 and 4 in. senkos, grubs, ect. works really well for finding fish in more open, shallow water for cruising bass. is a wonder bait in ponds! as far as creature baits, maybe a zoom baby brush hog? idk, i dont use creature baits.

Never understood this one. A lot of peole say this but in all of my years split shoting, a little moss on the split shot never kept a bass from eating my bait. I personally love the added convenience of the tabs.

Tubes, Zoom C-tails, and reapers are some of my favorite split shot baits.

Can you guys give some tips on some different ways to retrieve the  bait in grass.  I am assuming that the bait need to stay on top of the grass, right?

hmmm, interesting. I will have to try this soon.

Do you guys think is ok to use a swivel to prevent line twist? this may call for a lighter split shot after all.

I use the split shot rig all the time. One of the lakes I fish has alot of weeds and this technique works great there. Use the smallest split shot you can get away with. I have used ribbontail worms with this rig also and they do work but a trick worm or a finesse worm works better. I like to crawl it or hop the worm right on top of the weeds. Probably one of my favorite rigs.

I use it on floating tubes ( Gene Larew ) and it works great. I took first in a tournament fishing this way. The bass were just off the bottom and I was fishing from the start, Buzzbaits,spinnerbaits,senko's,T-rig worms for about half of the day, and I had 3 keepers. And then I put it together and found how the bass there off the bottom, so I put on the split shot with the floating tube and I hit it big.

The split works great with the pre rigged worms like The Worm, Fin. worms, and small frog baits ( Netbait has a real cool little Frog ), Flukes and so on.
