just wondering what everyone uses when ti comes to a gripper/scale.

I am about to order the XTOOLS® Grip-N-Weigh® Digital Fish Scale, any opinions?

Anybody like the Rapala one?

WHAT DOES EVERYBODY USE? i dont wanna damage fish, and i want an accurate reading. I usually catch fish from 1lb to 4lbs, nothing too large.

I have a Rapala scale (the 60lb model). I picked it up for musky fishing. Only drawback on the scale side is the readings are in 1/2lb measurements. It is an accurate scale though (you're just guessin within that half pound range). While I haven't sent mine in, the Rapala's can be sent in to be IGFA certified.

i use the berkley digital lip grip scale, it's rated up to 25lbs and goes for $50 at cabela's, BPS, etc. never had any problems with it.

Whatever you do, don't buy the Rapala Lock 'N Grip (the one with the digital scale built in). Mine was inacurate and unreliable, so I chucked it.

After I picked up my Rapala, my Dad picked up one of Berkley's to use for musky too. He had a small (30") musky all but rip it out of his hand. The Rapala has a ball bearing handle so if a musky would try a death roll once you have them, you're not loosing the grip or getting injured. Maybe Berkley has improved their design since then. For other smaller species, I'd think that you'd be ok.

I have a Rapala Lok-N-Weigh. It's not digital, but a spring scale. It's accurate, and has been tough as nails.

It's basically a cheaper version of a Boca Grip.

Cabela's puts them on sale every now and then. Got mine for fifty bucks, and I consider it money well spent.

I got a cheap Econoscale gripper from BPS. Functions great for its 15 dollar price tag. The Boca's sure look nice but a 120 bucks is alot for a scale with a 1/4lb resolution.

i've got a cheap berkely and a boga grip and i never use the berkely anymore.

I've had the 15lb Boga Grip for about 3 years now and it's still like the day I got it.  I've used it in both fresh and salt water with bass, redfish, sea trout, and other toothy critters and it's been flawless.  No signs of rust or any other defects.  Solid gear made of quality materials.

What is the cost of certifying a scale? IGFA will examine scales weighing up to 100 lbs for members at a cost of $30.00. This fee includes return shipment by regular parcel post. If the member would like to have the scale tracked, insured, or returned within a shorter period of time, we recommend that they send a UPS or FedEx label or an account number along with the scale. Certified guides and Captains receive a discounted rate of $24.60. Weigh Stations may have one scale (up to 100 lbs) examined for free and pay only the return shipping cost.

As a member, scales that weigh 100 pounds or less can be sent, but few will make the certification. As a bass scale and lip gripper, you can be assured that Boga Grip will.

I would never use the Rapala scale with the gripper.  The teeth tear up bass' mouths.  

I tried every digital scale that BPS carried.  None of them gave me any consistent readings.  If I weighed a fish 5 times I would get from 3 to 5 different weights.  So I bit the bullet and sprung for a Goga.  It was hard to pull the string for that much but I haven't regreted it.
