Favorite decade for music?

Recommended Posts

I would say 50's.  Rock and Roll was basically born and opened the doors for really all music to follow.  I think is was a fascinating time in general for America, I would have loved to have lived it.

Man as I'm thinking of what I know about the 50's, it had great cars and in my opinion the best boxing of any decade in history (all weight classes).  More reasons why I would have loved to live it.

Ya' know, some might find this surprising, considering that I'm an old guy ;) (46) but I really just love all eras of music, from the 50's, on up. I know a lot of old timers seem to like music from their earlier years the best. But I listen to just as much stuff that has come out in the last year or two..... The same stuff a lot of kids listen too :)

Either way, whether it's some old school low-fi recording, or a modern techno bass track, it all sounds pretty darn good in my truck ;)

Peace,

Fish

Gotta agree with Chris.  I really like far too much music to limit myself to a decade.  There has been so much good music made over so many years in so many different genres.

I like music from every decade - including the present.

If I had to pick one - probably the 90's (and into the 00's).  There was just a huge boom of creativity in rock and unique stuff coming out of that decade.

Soundgarden, Incubus, Tool, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Live, Sublime, 311, King's X, Red Hot Chili Peppers, STP, Audioslave, Rage...etc....

I think more often than not, people are naturally going to be drawn to the decade from when they were in their teens and early 20's, regardless of whether or not it's a great decade of music. These are the some of the most impressionable years of your life.

I'd say the 60's were my favorite. It would be hard to make an argument that the 60's were not the best and most influential decade of music. Clearly they were, with the introduction of the Beatles, the Stones, Dylan, Pink Floyd, The Who, The Doors, Hendrix, Cream, Creedence, Led Zepplin and all of the soul artists and groups like Marvins Gaye, Temptations, Otis Redding, Righteous Bros and on and on and on.

If stuck with the classic definition of decade, I have a very tough time choosing between the 60s and 70s. My favorite decade is 65-74. 8-)

Can't really figure on one exact decade. The creativity in the 70s with R&B, Funk, and Rock changed everything and then the 90s saw Rap get big, Country start having a following again, and New Style Rock groups like Red Hot Chili Peppers who were mixing rock with rap.

I think generally speaking, for most normal people, you are absolutely correct..... Which would explain why this holds absolutely zero weight with my abnormal self :)

But hey, as I often say, it's okay. I know most guys just can't help being normal. :)

Peace,

Fish
