Ok guys,

Finally got some safe ice in the area and I've been out the last 2 weeks both mondays and tuesdays with a few fish on the ice to enjoy.

So here we go, 1st good outing of 2007, ice was thin 2 1/2" - 4" but stayed away from the 2 1/2", I fell safer on the 3"-4", yea I know it is only a 1/2" but can you blame me. Nothing big, but still put a fish on the ice.

Then the next day I went out with another buddy and we were on 5" of ice, much better, yes much better indeed. Start the day off with this 27" northern pike, C&R'd on a tipup with a 6# mono leader, and I ended up fighting this fish for about 5-10 mins it seemed cause I knew I only had a 6# mono leader, hehe, what fun.

And here is a sweet bigg'n 10" gill that was quite fun on my UL jig pole with 4# mono.

Then we come to this week.

I went out both days with another buddy of mine and got him all hooked on this ice fishing stuff.

Notice the double team holes again. If I put the holes close together, I can pickup and read both set of jigs down in the water. Now check out this big 'ol fat pumpkinseed.

And there is always a chance that there will be a big school of fish to come thru and with the double holes, you end up with a double hook up every once in a while.

And to bring this day to a close. I was picking up a fish about a foot off bottom what I notice when I drop the transducer thru the hole and watch my jigs go down. I start about a foot above the marked fish and give my jig a bounce or 2 and SLAM-O.

The fight was on, this little pike was also caught on 4# mono and my UL, boy-o-boy what a fun fight that was.

After a great day on the ice, my buddy headed to the tackle store to buy his 1st ice fishing jig pole and a bucket seat/fish bucket insert. ;D Hoooooked up.

I did a cardinal sin and forgot the fish flasher this morning. Left it on charge next to the bed.

But, we were right on the fish, right away, guess we haven't lost your touch.

Here is my buddy's 1st gill on his new jig pole.

And his 1st crappie, too.

I brought my little Pak Shack with me this morning and here was one of the bigger gills for me this morning.

And I had to take a picture of the smallest crappie of the morning. ;D

My buddy got this nice little crappie as I was getting ready to leave.

He ended up staying for about 3 more hours that day, so I drilled a bunch of hole for him before I left and he ended up getting this big ol' betsy largemouth bass also on his new jig pole on 4# mono.

And next week, I'll be putting ice time in for both Monday and Tuesday again.

I can't wait, till next time.

Nice bass. I like the crappie too!

I have always wanted to try ice fishing.  But we're lucky to get 2" of ice here.  We've had about 2 weeks of really cold weather and the lakes are only partially covered with an inch or less.

Nice job.  I had to put a jacket on and crawl under the blanket just to keep viewing the photos.  It's 65 out and the wife has the heater on......

It's good to see someone catching fish and having fun on the ice. I have never had the opportunity to ice fish. I'd love to try it but where I live I doubt that'll ever happen here. I can't seem to talk my wife into a winter vacation in the Minnesota. ;D

I'm planning on hitting the ice again this week on Monday and Tuesday.

The weather looks to be cold with 20's high one day and single or teens the other day. BBBRRRR

Looks like I'll be bringing the shanty and heater out on the ice this week.  ;D

nice fish, i just went out this weekend for the first time and caught a northern the size of your 2nd one, we also had close to 10 inches of ice to work with

i was reading in field and stream about how the thickness of the ice, and how much it can hold. i think it was like 2-3" will hold 150lb person and it goes up from there, its pretty strong...but dont trust my judgement, i fell through the river while scouting for ducks this winter...luckly the water only came up to my shoulders and i had my waders on, only soaked the coat....haha but it was like 15 degrees outside. i have always wondered about ice fishing, we have some walleye around here and would like to try to fish for some of those.

and what is a flasher?

and a flasher is similar to a sonar fish finder except it flashes out sound waves and works just like a sonar, and on the screen it has a dial or gauge on it, when there's a fish it registers a higher gauge, when it is plain bottom there is a certain gauge it reads. Much like a EMF meter (Electro Magnetic Field). (CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG LOL)
