Hooked into a couple carp today... fun. They aren't huge but, they still put up a nice fight.  Caught them on sweet corn.  Had a big one on but as soon as he started to run and pull drag he straightened the hook out and got free.

That's a real UGLY stick. Lol.

Hey nice pics man.  There's a spot where I fish with BIG freaking carp in it.  I've always wanted to try to catch them and I think you've just inspired me.  What kind of hooks and line do you recommend for these beasts?

Yeah those scales are pretty knarly, kybasser.  I've never seen them like that on a carp.   I was like   and  :-?  lol.

Thanks, HopelesslyAddicted.  Definately go for it man...  use a smaller size hook (#6 or so), heavy line (#15+ test) or better yet braid, some weight about 14" above your hook, and thread several pieces of corn onto the hook, cast, and be ready to hold on tight...  Almost got my pole yanked in the water twice by setting it down on the bank while waiting.  Good luck.

Man.... My lake has some friggin' gigantic carp in it. I wanna say like 40 pounders. Pretty sure it's illegal to fish for em here in FL though.. I guess if I really wanted to I could always say I was trying to catch some catfish...  ;D

What you have there is a Mirror Carp.  They are a mutation of the common carp.  Where common carp have even scales, the mirror carp have some very large scales, mixed with small scales, even patches of no scales. The mirror scales are unique and you might not find many with the same patches of scales.  Google Mirror Carp and you will see a few examples.

Ah... That sucks. They're definitely grass carp. You can see that blueish tint to them whenever they come up close to the shore.

That weird pattern one is actually a mirror carp.That's a rare catch! I know a few carpers in my area who would love to catch those mirrors carps.

Thanks.  It was the Horton mill pond.  Tried for bass and threw everything...senkos, trick worms, spinners, rapalas...  nothing.  I saw a lot of baby bass but, no bites except the carp.  It was fun but, I wouldn't go back unless I wanted to catch more carp.
