Catching Pickerel on Pickerel Lures

Featured Replies

think i would be successful in catching some large pickerel by using lures that imitate little pickerel? do they eat their young?

also, if there is a good pickerel population in a pond, do you think that i could catch some bass on a bait that imitates a little pickerel?

If you could find a pickerel imitation I'm sure it would work.  but why sweat it?  Get something flashy and/or splashy and if the picks are there you will catch em.

Pickerel will readily hit any lure in the tackle shop, regardless of what it may or may not resemble. If I had to pick one, I'd give a slight edge to spinnerbaits.

Bass will also hit anything. I've done a lot of fishing in waters that have both pickerel and bass. Regardless of what lure was being used and regardless of what part of the lake we were fishing, we would catch either species.

i'm sweating it because i want to make a swimbait imitating a pickerel (looks like a fun design to make) but i wanna make sure i'm not wasting my time making one  ;)

Because of the markings I would think that would be a slick looking bait. I know that pickerel will at times attack just about anything they can but it does not hurt to try something new. I know manufacturer's tailor pike and muskie baits to imitate their own and they are all ESOX.

DAve, maybe you can glean something from this vid. Pretty sweet looking. Not sure about a practical application, but cool nonetheless....

yeah that video comes up a lot.

that lure is rediculous though.

way too big for practical use, i dont even think anything would attempt to eat it, and the bucktail trebel hook is dumb, ruins the whole bait IMO. i think he should have put fins on it.

i also dont like the action too much.

other than that its a well crafted lure ;)

I sure a giant muskie or pike would hit that if it was put in front of them at the right time. Big esox eat big meals.

Cabela's sells a similar bait, called their ESOX Minnow. I have one, but haven't thrown it yet.
