I sure did.  We went out the West palm inlet, dead day 1 nice runner and about 15# bonita.  I always have a lighter spin outfit with me and on the way back inside the inlet I trolled a 3/4 oz spoon on a 10/20 rod 5000 medalist reel and I got hit.  Gotta say if we didn't run it down I would not have landed it, had the drag cranked all the down and still was nearly spooled, you could have fried an egg on that reel.....20#PP strong stuff.  I've caught bigger jacks but never had one fight harder, this epic goes into my top 10 of all time.

That will embarrass any bass, going to chase specks & reds in the morning!

Beautiful fish, love the yellow fin underneath it.  Still haven't tried fishing saltwater, I'm gonna have to try doing it one of these days.

Reds will surprise you, Snook.  I've caught slot reds in residential canals in the Lower Keys, and back in maybe it was '03 or so, I caught a 22 lb. bull red just outside Lynnhaven Inlet in Virginia Beach, VA.  Sometimes they show up where they're not "supposed" to be.

You can find Reds a little further south of you, Snook.  I've caught a bunch of them down in some of the small inlets in Biscayne Bay.  Go into Caesar's Creek, pass Adams Key, and then fish into some of the mangrove islands.  Keep your eyes on the tide though, it drops really quickly back there and you can get stuck easily unless you're in a real deal flats boat that only needs to draw about 4 inches to operate.  Theres not a ton of them back there, but if you find Snook, reds won't be far away.  Look for the moving water.  If that doesn't work you can hit Permit, Tarpon, and Bones on the ocean side of the flats there relatively easily.  Nothing huge, but there is a chance at a 30lb class Permit if you've got a few live crab to use as bait.

I believe Sir Snook is referring to Palm Beach county for reds.  The grass in our waterway has been depleted for YEARS, which ran out the sea trout and reds.  The grass is making a comeback in some ares from restoration projects but we have a LONG way to go.  I have caught reds in palm beach county but by accident.  You would be hard pressed to find anyone who actually went out and targeted them.  Probablly the most northern part of Palm Beach county would be your best place to try but don't get your hopes too high.

Man, that stinks about the grass up there in PBC.  Hopefully it'll come back soon.  A lot of the saltwater fisheries down here have been hurt really badly.  Would be nice to see if some of the other projects that the FWC has in place start to work as well.
