Does lure/worm size change in the fall ?

Featured Replies

Does your choice of worm/lure sizes change in the fall? What size worm should I be using in the fall? I'm used to musky fishing, where you go bigger in the fall. Thanks.

You will find a lot of different sized prey in the fall.  Most of the lakes in my area will have a lot of really small shad and bluegills from the summer spawn.  These baitfish are really getting hammered in late summer early fall.  l always try small baits first and progress upwards in my fall fishing if there is a lot of small bait around.

You definately can go bigger.  The forage is bigger then it was at the beggining of the summer and last week even.  All bluegills, shad etc.  are well grown by now.  Bass also tend to have bigger strike zones and can see a bigger bait from farther away.

The bait size I use changes based on what the fish are biting that day, not the season.

I use the same baits year round with only minor changes; ROF (rate of fall) with bottom lures and speed/depth of retrieval for all others.
