INSURANCE POLICY BASS AND ISH

Recommended Posts

I feel that insurance is checked when entering into tournaments at beginning of season of all Boaters. And They could check at Checkin registration or when signing up to fish a tournament. These guys are

prfessional fishermen and Make their livelyhood Fishing in a top notch

organization. Would I ask a Nascar driver when He is sitting on the track getting ready for the race to see his drivers insurance.. Would I ask Tiger Woods to see His Credentials Before He Tee's Off at a Tournament. Just My 2 Cents. I am on Ishes side. How did He feel

Degraded ? It is Early in The AM Real Early it is rough out there Sponsor Wise lots of Money on the Line and some guy wants something. Did They Mention This at the Pre Tournament Meeting.

Would I take a Chance with a 50 K boat that I earn My lively hood with and not insure It or my Equipment ?

OH WELL HOW ABOUT OTHER OPINIONS.

Its a rule, its been a rule for a long time. Rules are made because no matter what level, pro or not, their will be some people that don't do the obvious, right thing. If you can be a touring bass pro and jugle all the things that come with that, you can carry a copy of insurance. Just my 2 cents.

He should of had his insurance on file at the first of the year with Bass.

He might of had one that expired in like February. You must have a copy of the liability insurance on your boat for inspection at all times. This part of the rules just like limits and size are. Don't even want to think what would happen if you were to get someone hurt or killed while fishing in a tournament. I promise you it want be enough, once the insurance runs out then the lawyers are coming after your personal access. I carry a release with me for my non boaters to sign but I doubt it will hold up in court. I did up my GL from 100,000 to 1,000.000 I was also told that the more you have the more they sue you for. ::)

I am at a loss as to why he did not have it on him. I suspect it had expired and he did not want to show the card. It should be checked at registration and be done with it. We will never know exactly what happened, but it's a lesson learned. Wish he had chosen to handle it better, but that's the choice he made.

From what I've heard and read; Ish didn't get DQ'd for not having Proof of Insurance.  He got DQ'd for Unsportsmanlike Conduct.  His POI (that by rule is supposed to be in his boat) was in his truck which was not at the launch site.  He got up on plane in a No Wake Zone to run to his truck.  When he got back, the tournament director was gonna let him fish after the other competitors took off and they could discuss his violation of the No Wake Zone.  At that point Ish started yelling profanities in front of spectators and got DQ'd for Unsportsmanlike Conduct.

Is the POI rule in need of a revision? Maybe.  Could it be enforced differently? Sure.  But the bottom line is this  It's a RULE and when Ish was asked to follow the RULE he blew up and acted in an unsportsmanlike manner.

From what I can tell, based solely on what I've read about the incident, Ish was wrong on this one and that's a shame cause I like Ish.  He's one of the guys I find myself always rooting for.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Ish got fined 50 bucks for being late to the mandatory meeting to start with.

He got into yelling match before takeoff with BASS official.  No profanity at that time if I read that right.

He then ran across lake to his truck to get his copy, while doing so, he ran through no wake zone leaving the takeoff site.

When he got back, BASS official said he would launch after everyone else so they could speak of the no wake zone violation.   Then Ish used some very colorful words and was DQ'd due to unsportsman like conduct.

Remember, this was takeoff, and fans was present to witness all this.

No one to blame for ones actions except ones self.

Thanks drath.

I'm not condoning his blowup at all, but this part is a little bit funny:

"...after shouting expletives in front of almost two dozen spectators watching the blast-off."

So he swore in front less than 24 people.  I think I once swore at 1,000 people in Erie, PA back when I was on tour with my band, LOL.  We all lose it sometimes.  Gimme a break.  Doesn't make it right, but it doesn't deserve this much attention.  I'd be po'd too, if I felt like the TD was targeting me.  Ish should shut up, take his punishment, and raise his concerns at the next pre tourney meeting, where it would be a good idea to show up on time.

LOL, well said.

Ish traditionally has done well on Amistad and now he's probably on a mission.  I just put him on my fantasy fishing team.  ;D

Problem with this situation:

Yes............he should have not got on pad and cursed out the Tourney Director.  However, let's break down the situation....

1.)  The man got on pad, therefore he was in his boat and launch time was approaching.....how early do we get to the ramp?  I fished a BFL this weekend, launch @ 6:30, I was there @ 5:00 a.m.   Why was the card not asked for then?

If you break these tournaments down (FLW, BASS, or your local circuit) it is a business.  I think BASS is getting away from one major factor in generating revenue:  customer service.

All Ish is going to know is that he has give $$$ to a business that has treated him like garbage (in his perception and perception is reality), I would not be suprised if you see Ish on more FLW circuits.

Just me .02 cents.

Violation of well known, standard rules. Where's the controversy?

Shaking my head wondering the same thing, RW.  In this case there isnt even any room for interpretation of the rules.  It's not even a subjective argument.

Rules are Rules, I agree.  Here is a scenario.........

A college athlete is fouled on the last shot of the game and sinks the first free throw (assume he is allowed 2 free throws).  Now the game can be won or lost on the next shot.  Before the ref bounces the ball to the player, he notices that on the last play of the game the player must have been fouled b/c a small amount of blood is visible from the players arm.  Time is called and the player is taken to the sideline and gets a bandaid because the rules says that a player can not be bleeding on the court.  Now as a fan, coach, player....would you not be a tad bit upset that because of a "rule" that the emotion of that player, momentum of the game, and mind set of that player towards that next free throw was somehow altered??  Could you say his mojo (if you will) was somehow corrupted??

So Ish is set to blast off, he is thinking I may hit the first 100 yards of a spot I found 2 miles up river and then 30 minutes I have not boated a fish, then I will hit spot 2.  I need to keep my eye on water temp, wind direction, and sunlight (since it is partly cloudy).  If they seem to be active on the sub-surface I will throw the jerkbait, otherwise I will stay with the swimbait.  Be aware of cover so I can flip the craw.

Then the "ref" comes up and ask him "ohh by the way, I need to see your insurance card because I forgot to do it last night and before you launched your boat @ 5:00 a.m."  Hey don't shoot the messanger, its the rules.

Again, 100% agree that the rules are the rules.  However, you can not say that the tournament director (much like a ref) did not in some way alter Ish's mindset.

He broke the rules and then he let his emotions get the better of him. Believe me, I'm not one of those people who is always going to shut up and take things sitting down when I feel I've been wronged (ask my teachers lol) but trust me, when I know its time to shut up I shut up, and with $50,000 on the line I would definitely be shutting up.
