what todo when the bite is off?

Featured Replies

My small little golf coarse pond has some nice fish in it, but here in the past month they just will not bite anything i throw at them unless its a live bluegill i catch. Then they come alive and goto town trying to get that sucker while im trying to get the bluegill to shore. I hate going out to the garden and having to dig up some worms.

Ive always caught them on berkly worms and a shallow diving crank.

Over the past month i'll catch some dinks with my 7" powerworms and ive thrown cranks, spinners, jerk, jigs. multiple colors on everything. THey just will not produce.

The bluegill i catch most of the time are way to big since the small guys i assume are hiding out so they dont get slammed. so i spend more time fishing gill than i do the bass.

The only place where my worm is producing is in kinda like what would resemble a river stream connecting the two parts of the pond. Its nice and rocky and i bounce the worm off the rocks and let the current take it if i have it weightless.

get a minnow trap for 7 bucks, put it in your pond with some boloney, bread, and crackers in it as bait, put it in some shallow water where there are tiny bluegill, wait a few hours, come back, and there should be a good supply of 2-3 inch bluegill in there. use those for bait.

or you could get yourself a mattlures bluegill and try that

Keep Fishing, sooner or later it will turn on!!!!!!!! You may want to fish different spots, it is probablly a location issue

I must be missing them everytime. You can fish the whole pond so i start in different spots everytime. Its not that big. My other ponds i goto i can still knock em out just this little guy is frustrating. I have 5 catch and release ponds around me. So im always on decent sized fun fish to catch. This is just the closest. The fishing pressure was really bad for a while but in the last month i havnt seen anyone out there.

Have you had any adverse conditions in your area lately?

Anything that might have shut the bite off?

Can't catch em if your bait aint wet  ;)

Maybe you should try mixing it up a bit.  If you usually throw a power worm get yourself some lizards to drag on the bottom.  Or try some flukes in the top water column since they are hitting live bait.

I usually try throwing some new baits that I have never used before or use a bait I need practice on.

Avid beat me to it...Apply beer and you will think more openly and you will surely have success.  Try a senko in a natural color with fluorocarbon line while you're at it.  My .02

And if you don't you won't care  ;)

id try a fluke.

trying lures youve never caught anything on when the bite is off is not a good idea. youre setting yourself up for failure. then u may never throw  that  lure again cause "it  dosent work".

better to stick with your confidence baits and  grind it out. maybe float the powerworm, maybe go to a bigger one  and get those dinks off ya.
