Went to the Bass Pro Shop in Orlando with my new friend and BassResource.com buddy, Stansdwarf8. We shopped around then had steak sandwiches. I'm bumping this thread because Stan expressed some interest in going to Fork, but doesnt' know much about our "road trip". So here is this years story Stan. Read at your own risk.

But here is the real news!!!

At the store we met a FAMOUS pro, who asked not to be named. This pro has fished Lake Fork many times and gave me the complete skinny on what lures to use, patterns to fish, and secret lunker hideouts.

Just so everyones knows, a good, laminated map is a must. Don't bother trying to read it to find fish, every inch looks like it deserves a cast, no, the map is needed to get your butt around. The boat lanes, etc are all there and not having one would be like trying to get around Belgium without a map.

For the record. "Tom Tom, where is the best cove" and "Tom Tom where are the big fish" or "Tom Tom, how do we get back"  just won't work...................... unless you are on Mr. Redingtons boat! lol

I'd love to be in the Bass Wagon when Muddy is giving Alpster directions. It might sound a little like this.

Fluke, how would you use it on the water? Bring printouts? You'd need a laptop, no?

I've got that covered with my laptop and a paper map to mark up.

If I could make a map that I would use, it would just show boat lanes.

Like I said, on the map, and in person, every inch looks perfect.  Will take a little time in the area to learn a bite.

Doesn't hurt to have super detailed maps but often it's a matter of temps in certain coves, depending on where they face (E,W,N,S) AND WHETHER OR NOT THEY HAVE INCOMING WATER IN THEM.

I bought a waterproof fold up map of lake fork from FHS maps.

It's not an advanced "pro" map but it has some depth contours, boat ramps, cove names, and prominant structure.

Now for the good news.  For some reason they sent me two.  So I have a spare.  I'll bring it to the Fork so we'll have an extra if one is needed.

Not to worry gents. The BassMobile has a Garmin 2820 on the dash. I am more worried about Muddy falling in love with that sexy voice that tells you where to turn. BTW when your looking at the contour maps of Lake fork, I make contour maps for a living. I am a Land Surveyor and although most of my work is residential construction I have done a couple of lakes here in NJ and some ocean & bay topography. I have a particular fondness for maps (good ones that is).

Ron, you could probably appreciate the program Fluke has. When it comes to Fork, it was a well documented flooding. The maps are so chock full of "previous" detail, it's over-whelming to a UPS driver who knows how to use a good street map like noone else but when it comes to this thing,...geeez!

The program Fluke has puts actual pictures to what the map is showing you as it was well photographed before, during and after flooding. Holding tanks, buildings, bridges, roads, fences.......LOADED

Yea, I probably won't be able to resist it. After Christmes I will examine my monetary predicament and see if I can fit it in. I have 36" wide laser plotter in my office and can print maps at any scale as long as the software is agreeable. We'll see.
