What a trippy trip...........

Featured Replies

I really expected more action today, on the front of a front and all. But it was actually about as tough as gets. Not a single hit. Although I did have a couple 10 to 11's follow my swimbait up to the shore on one cast.

So anyway, after a long, uneventful day, I start working my way back to the launch ramp. And Whoa ! I see a 9 and an 11 right along the shoreline.... maybe 4 feet out, and 4 ft deep.... on or near a bed, I presume. But I glance at my watch, and its 5:55 pm ! All boats have to be off the water by 6 pm :-( .....and tomorrow its supposed to rain, which in itself might not be enough to stop me, but the brakes on my truck are going out now, and need to be replaced too..... Then back to work for 4 days :-(

What to do ? Hey ! I don't think the park actually closes until 7 pm ! (turned out to be 7:30pm) and this part of the shoreline was maybe 100 yards from the parking lot !

So, I yank the boat out... put away everything I don't need, and grab 1 pole, a couple Basstrix Bluegills, my scissors, and a stringer rope.

I'm back down there by 6:25 pm with another full hour if I need it. I start working my Basstrix across the clearing she was sitting over. Couldn't quite see a bed, but I assumed..... She acted interested right from the start. Took about 5 casts, but she finally whacked it.

Glad I thought about that stringer rope :-) Put her on it, then went back up for my camera, my scale, and my livewell (remember, my live well, a 100qt cooler, is transportable) I was going to bring my tripod too, but there were a couple other anglers that had just pulled up, so they followed me down to take some pictures for me.

Oh, she ended up going 11.3 lbs, but she had that "blocky" shape of many of the 14 to 17 lb'ers out of this lake. Pretty cool looking fish :-)

Now see there..... just because the boat is off the water, the trip still isn't neccessarily over ;-)

"...and the beat goes on..."

2007 has started out pretty well for you, Fish_Chris. Maybe you'll catch a bigun' this year! ::)

Great story, great pics, great fish.

Thanks for sharing another great day with us mere mortals.

Check list when I first get to work.

1. Get Coffee

2. Check out the gigantic fish you catch.

3. Get angry because I realize I will never even see a fish that big because I live in Missouri.

4. Day dream about catching a 3 pound bass ::)

5. Then get to work.

Nice bass, I am very jealous!

Yo man this is torture. Ever time I check out this board there is atleast one thread with a picture of FC holding a DD! ::)

Great job! I swear I thinking of hitchhiking to cali!

Just another lesson is perserverance. :) Anyone else ready to rename these as "California strain"? Or at least "Chris' fish"? :-?

I went today...caught six...biggest one was around 2 1/2 pounds...came home...looked at this...never going again :P

I was telling my friend danpitre about how awesome looking the bass you and Bizzle land, out of this world!! I am coming over there with you guys so you can learn me the biguns!!

Way to go buddy! You were right she does have the frame of a 15. I tell if I didn't have a messed up foot right now....I'd be all over that!  >:( Congrats again buddy!

Kiss my Bass

There goes Farmer Chris holding one of his many prized hogs! Nice one!

Anyone else starting to think Fish Chris just has one stuffed bass he bought at a yard sale and he just goes to different spots and holds it at different distances away from his body?  This is just getting ridiculous!   ;D ;D ;D

Living in Illinois makes me just want to...to...

Way to go, man!  I'm just playing with you.  I don't believe for a minute that if I lived in Cali I could catch even one of those monsters.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, Fish Chris =

Now see there..... just because the boat is off the water, the trip still isn't neccessarily over ;-)

Thank you guys :-)

BTW, for the last several Summers, I have been straying out towards the saltwater, for the Halibut, Batrays, and Leopard Sharks..... and I might have to do that a little bit this year too. However, I have some ideas that might keep me in the running for a bunch more DD bass..... and maybe even a "big one" if I keep at it ;-)

Peace,

Fish

Yeah... I guess I would get tired of catching bass like that and would need to mix it up with some saltwater fishing...  NOT!!!  ;)

Hey Gotta love it, it's not so much that I would tired of catching big bass, but just that in some past years, my odds of sticking a big bass during the hot mid-Summer months fell practically to zero, while sticking those big Bat Rays, and Leopard Sharks is almost a guarantee ! Not to mention, it can be 110 degrees at my home, and most of the bass lakes, but only 1 1/2 hours West (at the Pacific ocean) it is often 65 degrees :-) Awesome way to both beat the heat, and get a "drag-ripping fix" ! :-)

Peace,

Fish

I was just giving you a hard time  :) ...  I enjoy hitting the flats here in sunny Florida when the bass aren't biting!  Although the temperature is pretty much the same on the lake as it is on the flats!  HOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!  ;)

Ho hum,

FishChris catches another 12 pounder.  Wake me up when he does something special.
