found a new lake/pond in my area, lure suggestion?

Featured Replies

In my girlfriend's area there's a lake that you can see from a main road, Ive tried fishing the lake a few times, but i've never had any luck, I see a lot of little minnows in the shallow areas and some bluegill swimming around but i've never seen anything larger than that, nor have I see any indication (top water hits).  After exploring the pond a bit more I found a steep trail that leads down to another pond! I've never had the proper shoes on so I never tried going down until today...wow...I should have gone sooner.  The moment I get down to the bank I see a bass hit the top, probably about a 2-3lber.

My problem is...I normally fish soft plastics (senko's, Ika's, Jigs) and the way I work them is to let them hit the bottom, raise the rod tip up and let them float back down again.  But the bottom on this pond is full of underwater vegetation, as far as the eye can see...and it gets tangled up on my like no other...Do you guys happen to have any suggestions as to what lures I could use?

Thanks!

why dont you try topwater if you seen them hit the top.  Also when you fish soft plastics do you fish them weightless?  If not give that a try, they shold sit on top of the vegetation.  THats exactly how my pond looks.  Also if there is lillipads try a frog or even if there is not, they usually produce great for me in ponds.  One last thing is try some crankbaits, spinnerbaits that are shallow divers that will swim on top of the vegetation.  Bass love to ambush from the weeds and may produce good strikes. let us know how you do there.

Also try a floating worm hot pink/bubblegum colors work well.

GYCB Kreature, weightless and weedless. Fish it with a steady retrieve and occasional twitch. The bait will stay in the upper portion of the water column without collecting too many weeds. Be careful, you might get your arm broken:

looks like buzzbait heaven to me. ive got a bunch of fish on a spro frog in open water over weeds like that. maybe a really shallow diving crankbait to.

I just bought some Reaction Innovation skinny dippers for similar reasons... you might take a look at those too. They hover around 6" under the surface..

A Bandit footloose would fit in that really shallow crankbait category ;)

IMHO, Fisherboy nailed it.

Buzzbaits.

I fish a friend's pond that is shallow and loaded with grass and those bass just eat up my buzzbaits.

A Minus 1 is OK, but the buzzbait is excellent.

A Horny Toad is good, too.

But a buzzbait is better.

What about a Pop-R or Spook?

Good choices.

But a buzzbait is better.

So think about it and throw that buzzbait all day long.
