New PB @ Pocahontas State park! guess the weight!

Featured Replies

I went out early this morning to go fishing on my inflatable kayak, hit the water at 7am.  It was slightly chilly outside, and the water temp was about 65, I started off tossing a Calvitron Buzzbait in black/red for about 30mins, then switched to the white/orange/chartreuse for a little but with no luck.  I then switched to a jig with a Yamamoto double tail grub and started jigging the lilly pads with limited success, a dink less than a pound.  I then switched to a small white spinner and started casting towards the bank while paddling back to the boat landing area.  I tossed the spinner into a heavy laydown and BAM this baby hits my spinner hard and starts wrapping herself around the branches of the laydown and dragging me and my little inflatable around.  If I hadn't had some 25lb powerpro she would have snapped me off on the laydown, luckily the power pro actually cut through some of the small branches while I eased my way around the thicker parts.  When I landed her I smacked my self for not bringing my scale but she's definitely my new PB.

Anyone wanna take a guess at her size based on my pic? She only about an inch away from me so no perspective tricks.

Thanks for reading!

Ahhh, I definitely need to bring that scale with me next time, with the wide range of weights ><

gotta remember!

Oh man I though you knew the weight and we were guessing to see who would be closer. *In that case since you didnt bring a scale you have to be conservative or you will be lying to yourself Now I say it weighs 5.5lbs  :)

I say assume the fish is 6lbs. What is your previous Personal best?

This same thing happened to me TWICE with two fish in the 5 - 6 1/2 lb range. Lucky me, I fished a tournament and pulled a 7lb 2oz to set things straight. Right after that, I got a scale and wont' leave home without it.

My previous is the fish in my avatar, which....I didn't have a scale for either =(  I posted about that one last year too, which was estimated to be about 4lbs
