New guy here, some pics from yesterday

Featured Replies

Hey guys, been lurking around here awhile, just registered. A little about myself, I'm 18, used to fish alot when I was younger, but for the past 3 or 4 years havn't done much fishing at all. Just got a licsence this summer and have been out a couple times. I used to live in WA when I went fishing but now I'm in northern CA so I've had trouble finding any good bass spots. Been to clear lake one time, but its a 3 hour drive for me. Anybody recomend any good spots?

Anyways, yesterday I went fishing with some buddies in this canal/inlet whatever it was that feeds into the Sacramento river. I caught 5 bass, and we got one catfish and a couple crappies. Nothing big, the bass were 12-14 inches, a couple smaller ones too.

I got one on a white/pink crappie jig, the others on a green senko and one on a red senko. All the worms I fished weightless. Also lost 2 or 3 fish on a blue roboworm. I think I lost them because I was using an ultralight rod and it wasn't stiff enough to set the hook thru the worm and into the fish (rigged texas style).

This was the first time I've had good success with rubber worms and it really built my confidence in the lure, I'm gonna go get more senkos! I also have some worms from a long time ago, but I think they're some knock off brand and they didn't work. I don't know if its cuz they're old or cheap but from now on I'm gonna buy either senkos or roboworms lol.

Anyways here's a couple pics.

Welcome aboard!

You need some new gear. To effectively fish soft plastics you need a rod with at least Medium Power and Fast Action (a firm tip).

BTW, Nice pics!

Welcome to the forums!  8-)

Is that a 7" senko?

Great first post. I love fishing both senkos and roboworms. I use 4-5 inch senkos and have used green, white, and blue/black flake. They work REALY well for me. With roboworms i usually dont even bother with the 4-6 inch ones. I usually throw 8 inch + roboworms. If you throw the little 6 inch ones they will get tore up by little 6 inch bass. I just bought a pack of swim senkos the other day and tried them yesterday and caught a couple decent bass on them. You also seem to have the same kind of trips I have where you catch lots of small 12-15 inch bass.

welcome aboard

I have several rods. The main one I use is 6ft 6inch medium heavy, I have it spooled with 10lb. This was the one I caught most of the bass with.

5" senko

I'll have to try the bigger roboworms. I only have one pack so far of the 6 inch blue.

Nice bass for just gettin' back in the swing of things. Gotta love them senkos. You can never have too many, currently I use watermelon, pumpkinseed (swim senko... this is my fav), cinnamon w/ purple flecks (also swim senko model), purple, shad color konami knock offs, and blue and black laminate. I have success on them all depending on the conditions (water clarity/amount of stain and type of structure).

Check out your regions sub-forum, this is a great place to meet locals who can probably let you know about honey holes you may not have found in your area or around it. Also check out mapquest and google earth as they can uncover tons of ponds and lakes you may never have seen or heard of in the middle of no where. Before I started fishing I had no idea we had as much water access in nova as we do. Most of all have fun, this place is the best and you will learn more than any other form of media because you have knowledgeable folks here from the beginner level, to guide, to trophy fishermen, to semi-pro. Not to say other media doesn't help. Inr egards to that check out the articles by using the link on the home page. Great to be fishing again huh?

Welcome as a member of the forum.

Glad to have you and thanks for the pics.

Just Crazy has some great advice.  I used Google Earth and found a pond by my American Legion Post that I never knew was there all these years.  No fish, but it is a pond.

Check out the local street maps of your area that illustrate the ponds.  You will be surprised at what is behind those trees, buildings or houses that you cannot see from the street.

Keep on posting!!

That sure looked like a 7" Senko to me too, strange!

Congrats on the fish man. Keep fishing the Sacramento river, there's plenty of fish in there! There's always the Delta and Clear Lake, but both are pretty tough from shore.

Goodluck

I'm pretty sure its a 5inch but it might be a 6" lol. I guess the fish just looks bigger cuz its close to the camera  :P

Yea sac river is ok, but so far the only bass I've caught in there are little dinks under 10". From the shore its hard to reach places where I can see bushes or other types of cover that might be holding bass.

I like clear lake, been there one time, but we didn't know where we were going so it took us forever to find a spot we could fish from the shore, but the water level was really low, so it wasn't great, but we caught a couple fish. I wanna go back there if I have access to a boat, since I feel like its a waste to drive 3 hours to only fish one spot from the shore.

I'll try the mapquest thing and see if I can find anything.

Nice fish.

Is that a Kutless t-shirt you have on?

Welcome aboard!  Thanks for sharing your trip and as many here stated use google earth or online maps to help you find local ponds.  I found a few drainage ponds on google earth that are about 5 minutes from my house.

Yep, Kutless rocks. Apparently they're getting pretty popular too. Everywhere I wear that shirt or my Kutless hoodie someone usually says something about it, other bands I wear most people have never heard of.

I was just looking on Google earth, and it seems the only ponds I'm finding in close vicinity are golf courses. I had no idea there were so many golf courses miles away from my house. And the other bigger lakes I find are all pretty far away. Is there a more efficient way to search on it so it just hones in on bodies of water?

Well done son.

That senko has made alot of folks into  bone fide bassers.

Nice fish.

God bless brother. :)

I agree they rock. Most people are shocked that christian rock music can be good.

Anyway back on topic and I'm glad to see another christian brother on this board.
