Senkos are amazing

Featured Replies

well I'm still a newbie I guess but I thought I'd tell about my outing on Monday anyway.  We just got through a cold front down here in GA and it had just warmed up again, but it was windy with a bluebired sky.  Nothing would touch the rattle trap that had been workin so well in the cold so I tied on a black/blue sparkle Gary Yamamoto Swim-Senko.  The little paddle-tail on the classic Senko has some nice action.  I rigged it weightless and they tore it up.  Caught 10 1 to 2 pounders, decent for my lil 10 acre pond.  I missed a bunch more while I was trying to fish and talk on the phone at the same time and still more that just weren't hittin it too well.  Great day, had 20+ fish potential if I had been in the zone instead of on the phone

Congrats bro! Nothing beats senkos when nothing else is working.

I love those swim senkos.  When the weeds get thick after the spawn i love to cast a swim senko way back in the weeds and reel it over the top.  They just crush it.  Fun stuff and way to go.

yeah I do need to put it on speaker or something at least... haha. That tail gets some great topwater action like you said, though I haven't tried it yet, looks like it would be fun

I guess we will have to get a law passed for no talking on the phone while fishing.

Those little wiggly things your big bass puke up when you get them in the boat!

8-)

Yea' okay :-)

Hey, their is no doubt that a lot of bass get caught on a Senkos, and a decent number of big fish too. I know I have at least 20 DD bass posted on my website, to over 16 lbs, which were caught on Senkos.....

But on the other hand, I have "hundreds" of bass to over 20 lbs, posted on my site that were caught on swimbaits. So to me, the choice is obvious.

I know their are times when a big bass won't eat a big "trout-looking" meal, but will eat something small and goofy {like when we just pigged out on Thanksgiving dinner, but will still eat a Hershy's kiss} but in those situations, I'd rather reach into my lunch box and grab a box of crawlers. You just gotta' love a fat, lively, tail-hooked, live-lined crawler ;-)

When the whole rest of the world forgets about Senkos, and quits using them, I'll start to consider throwing one :-)

Peace,

Fish

Trust me I know about all of that swimbait action over in CA... ever read Sowbelly???

But as for me on my little 9 acre pond in suburban GA... I'll stick with my Senkos and save my little mini versions of your swimbaits for the spawn: the only time you will find some bigguns in my lake.

Big fish eat senkos, plain and simple. But FC is right, the chances of catching a DD is WAY great with a swimbait then it is on a senko. No one can argue that.

Again, I agree, BUT not all of us are blessed with crystal clear waters and trout fattened bass.  I make do with my insanely overstocked, poorly managed, neighborhood pond in which a 2 pounder is considered a good one

Hey BassinAssasin, I didn't mean to turn your thread into a Senkos vs. swimbaits thread. They both obviously have their place. I have to admit, the first time I saw the action of a Senko in a tank at a sportsmans show, I was really impressed.

Whatever works for you. As long as your catching fish, and having fun :-) Carry on....

Peace,

Fish

Thanks for puttin' that one to rest FC, I'm known for arguing forever ;D

But man I swear, when I finished reading Sowbelly for the 4th time I told myself I would up and move to CA one day

I've caught literally hundreds of Bass on the original, 5" Senko(90% were color #222 btw) since I started using them back in the 90s.  But, once I got my first Swimming Senko, that's all I will throw when the conditions call for a weightless(they also work great when rigged weighted/Texas), soft-plastic.  The slightest turn of the reel handle makes that slender tail go active and will entice the wariest of Basses.

Good catchin' young man!

Dan

I got a pack of black with blue sparkle swim senko eating a hole in my tackle bag right now.  Never fished em before.

Can't wait

And I made a vow to start throwing a swimbait this year and see how they work... but its gonna be tough to throw the same lure for hours and only get one bite

By the way, nice days catch BassAssassinMan
