Slow rolling a buzzbait

Featured Replies

My friend mentioned it to me today and I was wondering if anyone had tried this before.

I've heard of it before but have never tried it before.

Any thoughts?

If you mean slow rolling on or near the bottom like a spinnerbait then no. Slow rolling a buzzbait to me means reeling slowly and just barely breaking or bulging the surface with it.Holding the rod high can help out as well. The Cavitron works well for this.

Particularly effective on calm shallow water when at times the bass don't want all that noisy ruckus and commotion.A more subtle approach. Like any lure there is more than one method or speed to work it.Experiment and cast several times to a likely target using different speeds.

I do this with my small Cavitrons.  Works very well in shallow water when the fish are not being very aggressive.  I usually use the 1/4oz one for this and have had pretty good success.

Later, :D

I use that technique when the bass are not aggressive. I caught a fish in 12 inches of water the other day and I threw everything but the kitchen sink at them. The water was in the low 50's. I used traps -jerkbaits-senkos-spinnerbaits and said what the heck- I slow rolled a Cav 3/8 oz in shallow water. The bass was about 1 3/4 lbs but it was the only bass i caught in 1 1/2 hours-go figure.I also use that technique in early spring when the water gets about 52 degrees. I can usually guarantee that no one on  the lake is doing it.

T-rig, i have now seen what they call  "butt ugly"......

actually if u go onto the stanley lures website, famous for the ribbit frog, they have the exact same rig and they call it the "buzzit".

Actually I have a funny story about "slow rolling" a buzzbait.  My friend fished a team tourney with his dad who does not fish that much.  His dad tied on and was fishing a buzzbait under the water and caught a 3.5 pounder to fill their limit.

I have also caught fish using a buzzbait fishing it like you would a spinner.

Even though i called it "ugly", i didn't mean it wouldn't catch a bass. I noticed it didn't catch the bass in your picture though...
