Does or has anyone ever used a jig with no chunk or trailer? if so when? there are times for me when fish just dont like a trailer and without one it is like turning on a light switch.    

i do bolth ,,, i like a trailer tho .... maybe just for me but i prefer the look of a jig with a trailer ... i did have great days with just a jig also ... who knows

I have when I first tried fishing with jigs. I was so green that I didn't know what a trailer was. ;D

I would fish a trailer without a jig, but not the other way around.

If I am working the bottom I use a trailer most of the time.  When in other parts of the water column I rarely use a trailer because my hookups are a lot better without one and I have a much more precise control of the jig and what I want it to do.

If the bass are active and are moving around a lot, like in the summer, you can throw a jib without a trailer.

In the winter, when the bass are not moving and are looking for a big, protein snack, then a trailer is better as it makes the jig look bigger.

If you want the jig to fall fast then add a trailer. If you want the jig to fall slower then don't add a trailer.

I usually always use trailers. Sometimes pork when in tournaments. Otherwise, I will use plastics.

Some guys like claws off the trailer to move slowly. Others like the Rage Tails that have fast moving claws.

You can use trailer colors that match the jig or ones that conflict to give you a different look. It is all in your personal preference.

I would suggest using a trailer now through the summer and fish the jig like a s-l-o-w moving crawfish on the bottom.

Experiment. Trying new methods and colors is the fun part of fishing.

Sam I disagree with your rate of fall. IMO a jig without a trailer will fall faster than one with a bulky trailer with large appendages. This is based on resistance. When I am fishing jigs, I always use a trailer. I pick my trailers based on their bulk and appendages because that is how I control my rate of fall. Something like a Zoom ultravibe craw will add movement but not a lot of resistance allowing the jig to fall quicker. Something bulky with lots of appendages like a brush hog will allow your bait to drop a little slower because of the resistance created. This is just how I've gone about it and my thoughts on the process.

yep.  I belive the exact same thing, the larger the trailer, the slower the fall.
