First time practicing jig.

Featured Replies

I decided I should probably learn how to fish a jig. 1. because of all the big fish pictures I've been seeing. 2. It's getting cold, and they are good cold weather lures.

Anyway, I was throwing a little 1/4oz jig with a zoom chunk from the bank. It was a lot easier to pick up on the bites then I though it was going to be.

So here they are, nothing big, but it got me hooked on jigs. I'll be buying a proper flipping stick here soon.

First ever jig bass:

Second ever jig fish, and it was a big one, lol:

Another small one:

Biggest, gave herself away striking at my jig topwater when I was reeling it in, so I threw it back and got a hit:

Then, I hook into something nice and it wraps up my jig in some wood so I lose it and have to start throwing texas rig.

Way to go, nothing like haveing a good outing with a new techinque. I guess you can catch catfish on jigs as well. that is a catfish right ? :o

I remember when I caught my first bass on a jig, I was learning how to use a baitcaster as well. small birdnest an while i was trying to untangle wham, fish on.:)

Awesome!! Don't forget, jigs aren't just for cold water. I also agree with you on the bites, not too hard to detect.

Jigs are the one technique I just CAN'T seem to get into or do well with.

Dominion Dan don't give up. Jigs are by far my favorite thing to throw, and they catch some monsterous fish. Take only a jig with you and don't throw anything else til you catch one on a jig. Once you do, they'll start coming faster and faster, and bigger. It took me like 1 month to catch a fish on a jig, now I can't put it down.

I keep my rod tip up, pointed at the lure with the line semi-tight, and give it a couple small pops. I either feel them when i pop it, or the line moves a little bit.

I'm still looking for my first jig bass.  I've caught them on pretty much everything else...

Bought my first Megastrike Evolution jigs a couple of months ago and am now hooked. I have fished jigs forever and have never had the fish catching confidence that I now have. Go to the website, watch the video, order a (or multiple) jig and try it out. I have never felt the feedback, had the #'s of bites, and strength of bites as I currently have fishing these jigs. BTW, if you tournament fish in Texas....I am just kidding these jigs are not worth your money!! LOL!   :-X

That is something I have been wanting to learn too.  Good job!

BossierBassHunter,

Great pics and story.

Glad to read you are proud to be from Bossier City.

Growing up in Louisiana all of my friends from Bossier City said they were from Shreveport.

Now any friends from Shreveport say they are from Bossier City.

Keep throwing those jigs!!!!  ;)

Great job with the jigs! I, too, am working on improving my jig fishing...but I'm not as good as you are...yet! ;)

I grew up in Texarkana, I had friends from Bossier City.

That's just because a lot more people know Shreveport than Bossier. But now, people don't care, so they don't want to be from a dirty old city like shreveport, haha.

I'll be going out for some more jig fishing soon and I'll update this thread with any big guys.

Well done. The jig is something that I have not had any luck with yet. You've given me hope.  8-)
