Topwater Bait

Featured Replies

Interesting and i have a similar bird lure the one by thornwood, havent caught anything off it yet but im going to save a rod for it this spring to give it some qaulity time and see if there is a future place still held in my tackle box  :-?

This looks more like folk art than a lure people would actually fish with.

I'm sure it will work.  Hell, under the right condtiions anything will.

but it looks more for the den shelf.  cute.

Does it come with a duck call? There is one on the net that has feathers on it that I have seen. If I was throwing it I would need to have a duck call to attract up the bass ;)

You might catch a male duck with it, but seriously it probably would work on the right conditions but then bass will hit almost anything like allready mentioned. It would look better on a shelf then in a

tacklebox.

I would definitely throw that thing depending on the time of year. More likely after duck mating season, whenever that is. It's all about matching the hatch.  ;D Last year at a club tournament, one of our guys caught a pretty good fish, tossed it into the livewell, and when he went to weigh it in, there was a half-digested duck floating in his livwell. Pretty nasty if you ask me, but the fish took Big Bass for the day, so ya never know.

haha i second that bass109!   I also wish they worked on better and new types of snake lures, maybe both hard plastic ones as well as new soft baits

How much does that thing cost?  I'll buy one, take the hooks off, and let my 2 yr. old daughter play with it in the tub.

In reference to "Customizing Baits" topic:

.....see, now I would take this thing and add webbed feet to it......

This is definately a "catch the fisherman" lure.  I beleive that when bass hit ducks there keying in on the kicking feet.  How would a bass know if it was a duck, it cant see the top part of the head and us seeing the top of the bait is the only reason we recognize it as a duck.  Other than that, it is sweet.  That must take so long to make

Exactly what i was thinkin.

Exactly  i dont think bass say hey theres  a sparrow let me eat him there brains are so small all they can do is basicly survive  they  see= find =catch =open =close if it fits they dont care if its a  duck ,kitten, midget,  or w-e ......

I would try it if someone gave it to me.  But I wouldnt buy it.

Senko77, I understand that this lure would catch a fisherman.  But look at the swimbait craze, those lure have caught fishermen & fish alike.

I've seen bird lures used to catch musky and pike, but not bass.  I figure they would work, though.  Hey, at least if they don't catch bass, they'll catch a catfish.  ;D

I think a bass is keying in on the big picture, not the little feet.  The most successful baits resemble something edible.  They aren't exact matches.  For example, a 3/8 black and blue rubber jig with a #11 pork frog on the back hardly looks like a crawfish if you placed it next to a real one, but bass eat it all the time.
