Black Hills at lunch (new PB with pic!)

Featured Replies

Popped over to Black Hills at lunch time to see if I could get my first largemouth of the year. I hit an area that's produced some decent bass for me in the past early in the year. It was cloudy and 44 degrees out with a north wind and a rising barometer and slightly stained water. I still felt pretty optomistic though. I started out slow rolling a spinnerbait just to see if there were any active ones around but no dice there. Set that rod down and started throwing a junebug lizard on one of the Energy PT rods I got last friday. I threw past a standing tree in about 3-4' of water when I felt one pick it up and drop it immediately. A second later, boom! She crunched it and I set the hook! I knew I had a decent one on until I saw her. Better than I originally thought! I played her in and pulled her out! Measurements put her at 22" long and 15 1/4" girth! According to the fish calculator on the site, she's 7.23lbs, I also checked her measurements against the IGFA's calculation and she went 6lbs 9oz there (which is what I'm going with). That's a new PB on the first bass on my new rod! Decent way to break in that rod! The entire equipment I was using was: 7' MHF Quantum Energy rod paired with a Quantum Energy 770PT Burner spooled with 14# Suffix Elite mono (clear), a 3/0 BPS straight shank hook with a BPS Triple Ripple junebug lizard that was loaded up with Mega Strike! ;D Not too bad for a half hours worth of fishing! Here's the pic.

very nice!  congrats on the pb.

Very nice fish!

One question tho. Are you talking about the black hills in South Dakota?

Thanks rondef. paul and greg516!

greg516,

Sorry for the confusion there! This Black Hills is a regional park near Germantown MD. Its literally 10 minutes from where I work so I'm usually there during my lunch break and after work throughout the year.

Now I see what you were talking about in your text.  Congrats on the fish she sure is a nice one.  I went to Meadow Grounds today with Jake, water was 41 and we had one bite and one fish all day.  Jen says hi and she hopes to see you soon.  Once again nice fish!

Matt

Nice to see your catching them that size right now at Little Seneca. Can't wait to have some free time so I can go fish!

Sweet  ;D Congrats on your new PB!
