Went to the canal behind my home yesterday and was tossing a rage tail frog. All of a sudden I saw a gator swimming across the canal and getting ready to climb the high bank. I backed up quickly and went thru the gate, knowing the gator can't open it.........lol, went home and changed my soiled undies and didn't venture out the rest of the day.  One of the bigger gators I have seen in a while.

Yikes! I love your reports, but you really need to start bringing a camera...we don't get to see many gators here in Missouri.

Those things scare me too. I'm from western NC but just recently moved to Beaufort, SC.  I am still trying to get used to sharing the water with these things. I try to keep my distance and for most of the time they will keep their distance from you. Last night one snuck up on me and was trying to stay hid in the water. It started getting dark so I high tailed it out of there! But one of my rods was on the bank near where the gator was...as soon as I got near the water the dang thing swam under the water so I grabbed my rod quickly and took off!! For the most part, as long as people aren't feeding them, humans dont really seem to be an appetizing meal but it is still smart to be careful and respect them.

First time I really got a little shook from a gator.  I gave up taking a camera, it's the kiss of death for me.

I'm not that scared of the gators, it's the moccasins that creep me out.  The gators can be dangerous but they usually don't bother you.  Of course some  I fish near can be 12 feelt long, but hey, those little moccasins are sneaky!!

in va we dont have to worry bout the gators but i have been to louisiana and seen them in the wild. i wasnt fishing just visiting. my sister lives in lafeyette.   my niece husband says growing up, he gator hunted. they says its delicious.

x2 on the gators and snakes. The gators are just curious,they will hang around and watch you. Some lose interest and leave, some get REALLY curious when you have a fish on the line and it splashes. But it's the cotton mouths(moccasins) around here that make me nervous. Quiet,sneaky,and flat out mean.

And yes, they are very good to eat. A lot of people waste a lot of the gator though. Usually eat just the tail. IMO the meat on the lower jaws is the best tasting. There are tons of ways to cook them. From gator on a stick to a good ol sauce piquant(pronounced pi-caww). Ask Catt if he knows anything about a sauce piquant he will varify.turtle sauce piquant is good too.

Geez, I think I'll just stay up north. Snakes, Gators, yeah I'll just stay here thanks.

the sauce sounds good sounds cajun. what is it? if is cajun god man i would love it than. my sister ex husband dads made some of the best cajun food i ever had tasted their wedding man i stuff my plate full. i went down there. had some beer i never heard of to shults or something in that range a cheap malt.

i hear turtles are goods but after watching les on survivor man cook the legs and how they look i was like nah no thanks. didnt look good haha, but the snakes did! man it nothing to cleaning em too. just peel away and everything falls out.

Try flipping a 1 oz weighted otter into a "dark spot" past some thick grass and land it on top of a large gator's head!

Husband did that during a team tournament. When the gator let out a roar less than 4' away, splashing water everywhere.. both of us were running in place, holding our rods and looking at each other.  That gator was about 1' shorter than our Stratos boat!  He swam away from us, not bothering to swim underwater. he knew he was the baddest gator in those parts.

I have eaten some things in stews that I probably would'nt have, if I knew it was in the cooking pot. If you ever come to southeast Tx,La,Mississippi,or Bama a lot of times it's better if you ask what's in it after you ate it. Especially home cooked food.

Yikes!!!   I'm with the rest of these northern guys. I'll take the snow. lol. So what's it like to catch a gator on a rod and reel anyway? I'm guessing it would take a while to get em in.

Gators don't fight, they just pull hard like a lemon shark. 5# bass is more fun.
