Took my girl fishing

Featured Replies

Ok I went back to Jennings and this time I brought my 5 year old daughter Ashlyn. Last time it was me and a buddy and we got quick limits of cats at Jennings so I Decided to bring my daughter back. I did not fish, my goal was to get her on fish and have her catch them with as little help from me as possible. I baited her hook and casted and told her when she was bit. She picked up the rod, engaged the reel and set the hook. Then she fought the fish by herself until she got it close enough for me to grab. She caught her own limit and did it with the princess pole I bought her at walmart. Those are not great rods lol but thats what she wanted.

Anyways it was still the same patern as before

Flylined chicken liver close to shore. She had 10lb test but I doubt that mattered and I think a size 1 or 2 mosquito hook. She was using half a clump of chicken liver. Like last time I was there we didnt fish from a boat. All the fish that she caught were decent, no dinks. They were all around 3-4lbs We kept them in a big basket and let them go after we took a couple pics.

The bad pert was she walked right into my lowered tailgate, Good thing we happened to have a bandaid to make it better.

What Catt said x2.

You are blessed, she looks like she had a great time. Take her back soon.

Those are the moments you remember for a lifetime! Thumbs up to you Matt!

I am sure she will remember this trip, the day she had a great time with dad and bumped her head as well. You guys will laugh about it down the road.

I actualy feel guilty because I dont take her enough. Its just most times I am fishing its hard work with little results and I am so focussed. It sure was nice to fish for fun and for sombody else. It was a perfect time to take her. I am going to have to work on making more daddy daughter fishing time. She says she cant wait untill shes old enough to go hunting with me! She wants to shoot ducks!!!!

Matt there is nothing more important than that smile and the look in her eyes ;)

Right on, Matt! I have a 5 year old too who also likes to fish.  Whether we catch fish or not, it's usually a good time. Congrats to you and her. 8-)

WOW!

Matt,

No need to explain, her smile is worth a thousand words.

Ditto.

Is that a Spongebob bandaid on her forehead?  That's what all the stylish fishergirls are wearing these days.

wonderful!  she's blessed to have you for a dad.  way to get her out there.  tell her all of us said GREAT JOB!!!!

Way to go Dad!!! Way to go Ashlyn!!!!!

Passing on the tradition is so important. Teaching our kids the techniques and the respect of fishing is more than a trophy itself.

Great job Matt! You're proud and Ashlyn is proud. That's a win win!!! Awesome!!!!
