Catches a Grand Slam!

I drove out to meet up with CASTMASTER, and drop off some reels.  He couldn't fish, but he called Sr. up, and we hooked the boat up to my truck, and headed for Oneida, South Shores ramp for a short afternoon trip.  My son, Big Al along with Sr. and I headed out to the "H's" but nothing was going on.  Several boats were there,no one catching.  So we headed to one of Sr.'s spots, and where we fished in the spring two years ago, and Sr. and I put on a clinic on how not to fish wake baits and topwaters, LOL.  Al, meanwhile had a monster pickerel on, that chewed its way to freedom, boat side.

Eventually, I hooked a pickerel, shaking it off boatside.  Later Sr. caught a few more smallies, still waking.  Big Al was getting bored, and I announced that it was one hour left to fish, He grabbed the Senko rod, and first cast after his "nap" bangs a really nice google eye.  I get a pic, he releases the fish, and whammo, he's got another fish on.  This time a smallie, tons of leaps, and runs into the weeds, and we finally get it in the net.   Smiles, high fives, and pictures.  Now, I'm ready to catch, but wait, its Al, with another fish on!  This time a nice largemouth that Sr. swore was a smallmouth by the way it jumped.  "Look how green that smallmouth is!"  LOL.

Tons of high fives.  Best trip so far this year.  The last hour was crazy.  While I had fish slapping at my Sammies  and Sr. getting short strikes on the wakebait, Al took over, and handled the catching.

Awesome evening.

Thanks Jim, and Jim Sr.

A good afternoon for sure. Big Al was clearly the hot stick and looks like a chip off the old block.

btw, is the senko rod picture a Kistler Graphite Plus ?

Great report J, looks and sounds like fun was had by all. What kind of rod is that Sol hooked up with that Big Al is holding?

A-jay beat me to it!

Thanks guys.

The reel is a "poor man's SOl," a Daiwa Capricorn XTC 1500.  A $50 Dick's special.  Amazing reel, been to the bottom of nore than one Finger Lake, launched out of a boat on the road, and it still keeps spinning.  The rod is a Kistler Drop Shot Special, from the Graphite Plus series, another $50 dollar clearance toy.

This trip was badly needed.  Big Al just started jr. high, and there'sbeen some chaos around the house.  A good day was what the dr. ordered.
