Crankbait color/pattern choice

Featured Replies

If you could choose only 2 color/patterns for your cranks (lipped or lipless) what would they be? Feel free to even make up your own color combination.

Sorry, i have to give 3:

relatively clear water with sparse cover: shad with bleeding red hooks

rel. clear water with heavier cover: Perch/Firetiger

stained water: anything metallic and flashy

these are definitely my go-to colors for these situations

Nowadays, everyone likes sexy shad or citruse shad, but If I had to choose 2 colours: white and firetiger.

I don't place high importance on color, but I have to use something. I go with something quiet, like shad or bluegill, and something louder, such as firetiger. I might be 100% wrong, but I have enough confidence to think that I wouldn't catch any more fish with different colors or a wider selection.

For clearer waters, I really like holo greenie colors.   Sebile and Yo-Zuri do them very well.  For dingier water, I like firetiger.

But I couldn't limit myself to just, two.  There are too many other colors that work great.

I really only use 1 crankbait color all the time:

Firetiger: b/c it matches the perch which are a favorite item in MN for bass.

Lipless cranks is a different story: Red Craw, Blk/Chart., and Chrome/Blue Back/Orange Belly

cold water...american shad.

warm water...ghost sunfish.

i could live well with these.

Chrome w/ blue back for clear water.

Firetiger for murky water.

Sexy Shad (or Citrus Shad) for clearer water.

Firetiger for stained.

Real clear water whatever the prevailing baitfish species is.

Shad, Perch etc. A little flash never hurts in deeper water.

If I could only chose 2. My clear water choice would be Lucky Craft Ghost. Stained water my choice would be firetiger.

Hard to beat Chrome with black or blue back for ratttletraps

Citrus Shad for crankbaits with Sexy Shad close behind
