Dead Sticking

Featured Replies

What is it exactly?  I keep hearing the term in regards to fishing Senko, Tikis, etc, but I am not sure exactly what it is.

Your bait rests on the bottom. You do nothing. I have caught several big bass recently dead sticking, but it's soooooooooooo boring.

I fish a modified version a lot. I'll let a soft plastic sit on the bottom for a full minute on the initial drop, move the bait and let it sit fifteen to thirty seconds and repeat until I feel I'm out of "the zone".

Just let it sit.  You will be surprised how many you catch when it is just sitting there.

This really effective in cold water, use a suspending jerkbait and just let sit...and sit...and sit some more.

you'll be surprised at the results.

Hope this helps>

It is indeed an effective technique. Many of times when I'm fishing and I have a blacklash, I'll let my lure sit there as a pick it out and many times I'll have a fish on. When the fishing is slow sometimes I'll let my bait sit there. Its sometimes the thing you need at a time like that, but I seem to get a lot of snags from my lure being on the bottom. I think the lure would be a good idea in heavily pressured lakes and during a cold weather.

deadsticking iseffective when bass are nuetral or inactive.they bite out of instinct or curiosity, not hunger or reaction. it's an effective way to fool a bass into biting when they don't want to .the bass comes across ur motionless bait and picks it up instead of u imparting a action to get him to strike. it is a most natural looking morsel to a savvy predator.

Kinda like bottom fishing, cast, take a nap then set the hook. Like RW said SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO boring.

That's how I learned about it ;) ;D.

Think how many times a large bass has seen a lure enter its area and immediately begin to move out of it. Some fish probably see this same type of senario played out several times a day every day. If nothing else the deadsticking technique is different than what they are used to. It would be tough to do all day long cause it sounds pretty boring, but I could probably incorporate it here in there in those special looking spots that you know are holding a real tank of a bass. I have to agree with Zeke and Reb, most of my deadsticking takes place while I'm picking out a backlash or digging through the tackle bag.

rebasser- I think probably 90% of us found out that way!  ;D

I thought deadsticking was thinking it sat for about 15 seconds, i found out that it can even go for a minute, a guy in our club won a tournament with deadsticking a senk for 45 seconds on the outside if the pads and had almost a 20 pound, 1 day sack

It can be for a whole lot longer than a minute. Depends on your patience and the fish.

Would most everybody agree, the most important aspect of dead sticking is fishing weightless!, This  is the most effective way to fish it.

fishing weightless depends on the depth ur fishing if its 10' or more i use a weight so i can get on the bottom faster. if ur talkins cigar type baits i agree i hardly ever use a weight on those, but on worms i do

I never use weight with Senkos or Fat Ika, but I fish tubes T-rigged. I have recently been fishing the El Gordo (black neon) from Micro Munch Tackle. This tube "stands on it's head" with the tentacles fluttering upwards off the bottom. Guys, I'm telling you this is quite a sight! It not only attracts big bass, but monster catfish, too. It's my #1 soft plastic right now and I'm talkin' size!

earthworm77 (Craig DeFronzo) owns the company, www.micromunchtackle.com. He has a pretty cool website, too. While you are there be sure to check out his jigs, that's really his specialty. I bought a pretty large assortment of lures from him and am VERY impressed with the quality of the products he offers.
