what items should i use for dropshotting and how do i do it?

I would like to know what action i should use and what size pole i should use

Also any tips on dropshotting are greatly appreciated

Use a 7 foot med baitcast with 10lb line 1.4th oz weight in the cylinder style, owner downshot offset hooks in the 1/0 size, or gammie 1 dropshot hook for open water.

Or use a 7 foot med light or med spinning rod and reel with 10lb or 6lb line.

6lb equals more bites but more misses and breakoffs.

Drop shotting newbie here. Couldn't you benefit from flurocarbon? I would think you could bump the # test back up to 10 and not sacrifice numbers or break offs. What's your thoughts?

I'm with Fishie, except I use a 1/2 ounce weight because most of the lakes I fish are deep and also, the CA delta has a slight curent/tide, so I want to keep the weight on the bottom.  I use 10 pound flourocarbon with a 1/0 offset hook and a worm with a tail or even a brush-hog and that seems to work well.  Shake it slow, drag it slow, and then dead stick it. Repeat 8,000 times and you'll fill your bag.  It's just that easy

IMO flourocarbon line is a must for DS.  I use to use a 6'6" rod but now have a 7' rod and it works alot better.  Weights I use is mostly 1/8-3-8.  Line sizes I use 6-8lb

IMO flourocarbon line isn't a must but I guess if you fish really clear waters or really deep waters it would help a littel with the feel. I think you could bump the line up and eliminate breakoffs I guess. You could always do what Aaron Martens does though an fish 6lb line most of the time. The guy is only like the best on tour at it. He also will use a 6lb line diameter braid and then tie on a flourocarbon leader when fishing it for spawning bass on the delta.
