As spring gets closer, I'm going my typical preseason "audit" on my stuff.  Right now, my DBOP (duffel bag o' plastics) is reaching it's limit and I'm trying to remove a few items.

Do you guys find that lizards and brush hogs are interchangeable in their application?  Is there any reason to choose one over the other?

Profile is similar, both have lots of appendages...

Thoughts?

i like to drop shot lizards and fish hogs on the bottom. im not very good T-rigging either.

I'm not a big lizard guy, but there would be no way you are prying my bush bugs from me.

I don't think you should pick one over another.  I say this because my personal opinion is that you should keep the lizards for Carolina Rigging and the Brush Hogs as a Flipping or Pitching bait.  Like I said before I think you should have them both because what one does the other may not do as good at the same application.  But this is just my personal opinion.

Totally different for me. I use BHs texas rigged into thick cover and its one of my best producing big bass baits. Obviously lizards can be fished the same way.

However, I use them more for carolina rigs and smaller fish.

Chris, you have asked a simple question that cannot be answered with a simple answer.

First, which of the two baits do you have more confidence?

Second, do you do more Carolina rig fishing or pitching and flipping?

Third, you do fish deep or shallow waters?

Fourth, do you fish a lot of cover and structure or flat mud or sandy bottoms?

Each bait has an application that makes it more attractive than the other in certain situations.

If you fish more Carolina rigs, then a lizard is your answer.

If you fish more flipping and pitching then the brush hog can perform well.

If you throw into shallow water from deep water or fish deep water, and reel back to your boat, then a Carolina rig with a worm, lizard, fluke or even a tube can have good results.

I would suggest putting some lizards and bush hogs into one pack (3 or 4 or each) and having that pack with you as you go fishing.

If you think a bulkier bait like a brush hog will produce more strikes than a skinny lizard, then use the brush hog.  And vice versa.

Three pieces of plastic that are deadly for pre-spawn/spawning bass are Lizards, Creatures, & Craws  

If I had to I would give up lizards for brush hogs.  Both have their place, but I am finding from year to year I use less and less lizards.  Brush hogs on the other hand I use a lot of.

I use em both but if I had to choose, I'd stick with the Hog.

I would stick with Lizards. I like other creature baits better than Brush Hogs.

My tackle shows my preference.  I have about 4 times the brush hogs as I do lizards.
