Which Bass Fishing Books have you Read?

Featured Replies

Alright, I admit it. The Bass Fishing bug has grabbed me by the britches this year, and it isn't letting go. It's all I think about as far as recreation, and I am spending a lot of time on the water. Naturally, I want to get better at Bass Fishing. I have always turned to Good Books when I needed information on a subject. So, what how to Bass fishing books have you read that had a positive impact on your fishing?

Well i have the Ultimate Fishing Guide.Great book about 500pages long.Talks about all the game fish where to find them and how to fish them. Also talks about bait hard and soft.

Lets see....

1) Knowing Bass The Scientific Aproach to Catching More Fish (something like that)

2) Bass Boss

3) Jay Yelas's book

4)Winning Secrets of BASS Pro's

5)Fishing on the Edge

I have tried to read every book, Internet & magazine article, and I pump every local fisherman from average to pro for information. I recently paired down my bass books to only one bookcase from three bookcases. From all the articles like here on The Ultimate Bass Resource Fishing Guide to every bass fishing site on the net I find, I compile into a giant folder that is now close to a foot thick all the best information. By doing that you can make your own book of references of techniques and tactics. Not ever technique or style of fishing will work for you but you will learn something from all sources no matter how old. Sometimes those very old tactics that have not been used for years will return to their former effectiveness just because the fish have not seen them for a long time if ever. Find a book that interests you and make it yours and go from there. Like Confucius says "The longest journey is started with but a single step." It's a great life filled with a lot of fun and the joy of living life so enjoy!

Who is "KVD"?

I've read both of Kevin VanDam's books, and they're both great. You can also get some DVDs from BPS.

Big Bass zone, In Pursuit of monster bass, sowbelly, the book of black bass (or on black bass something I forget)....watched almost every bass pro dvd, etc.

anybody else read roland martin's book, something about 101 fishing tips?  the reviews on amazon are pretty good and i was considering getting it.

1.  Bass Wisdom by Homer Circle.

2.  Largemouth Bass by In-Fishermen.

3.  Smallmouth Bass by In-Fishermen.

4.  Denny Brauer's Jig Fishing Secrets.

5.  Fishing on the Edge by Mike Iaconelli.

6.  Baits for Bass - A Complete Guide to Fishing Bass Lures from B.A.S.S.

7.  Finesse Bass Fishing and The Sonar Connection by Don Iovino.

However, I mostly watch DVDs and Videos.

Bass Wisdom by Uncle Homer is excellent.  And I enjoyed Ike's book, too.

Ike's "Taking Luck Out of the Equation" DVD is the best one I have.  I suggest you get it.

Woo Daves tapes are excellent.  You will learn a lot from Woo.

And don't forget the videos of Bigmouth; Bigmouth Forever; and Feeding Habits of Bass.  These are extremely informative and you will learn about the animal and its habits.

by far the best ive read is " largemouth bass in the 1990's" it has many authors (all being fisherman), its so in depth i have to read like a 5th grader to understand and interpret, i read only a few pages at a time, ive learned soo so much from this book its fantastic  ;D

There are many, many more books referenced on this site.  Do a search on books and see what comes up.  This is a fairly frequent question.

Bass Angling Guide by Max Hunn (1982)

Smallmouth Bass In-Fisherman Handbook by In-Fisherman staff (1984)

Big Bass Magic by Doug Hannon (1986)

101 Bass-Catching Secrets by Roland Martin (1988)

Largemouth Bass in the 1990s by In-Fisherman staff (1990)

Trophy Bass by Larry Larsen (1990)

Central Florida Bass Waters by Larry Larsen (1991)

Winning Tournament Tactics by Denny Brauer (1991)

I've read the "Knowing Bass" book.  It's very informative but not the easiest book to read.  It's got a lot of technical and scientific mumbo jumbo instead of just telling you what you want to know.  I would recomend it, but I wouldn't try to sit down and read it all at once.

I have read a few of the books from the BASSMASTER library (they send them every so often if you have a subscription). I didn't think they were too bad, but it's many of the same topics they cover in the magazines so I haven't kept any of them.

There are lot's of good books out there.  I have read two by KVD, one by Bill Dance, Shaw Grigsby's is one of the best books that I have ever read--although not just about fishing--about life, will not read Ike's book about the poor repressed bleeding heart liberal dork, and am now reading a book by Bassmaster called Advanced Bassfishing Skills or something like that.  DVD's books are both good-I hear there is a third, Bill Dances is probably the most educational although somewhat dry, and the Bassmaster book is ok-although seems elementary in most regards-but keep in mind read enough books-fish enough-and information gets repeated.  All good reads except Ike's that I have not and WILL NOT READ.  That man needs therapy.  Do not get me going.  Anyways, keep reading, keep fishing and you will learn.  I have!  One of the best tips I have for any fisherman is to regularly fish with a fisherman beter than youself.  You might get outfished, but you will learn.
