Tackle Buying

Recommended Posts

If you're looking for a rod or reel, I think it's best to check them out in person at the store of your choice. If none close, T.W. is probably your best bet. Beware of the stickers though. Bass Pro or Cabelas are good too. There are quite a few specialty sites also that cater more toward high end or tournament equipment. Do a google on what you are looking for to start.

Both.  When I need something that I plan on using in a the next couple days I go to the store.  If the bait monkey needs a quick fix and I don't need it immediately, then I will usually order online because I can find better deals.

I'll shop around online to see what I want, but I always end up buying my stuff in person. I'm fortunate to have a Basspro, Dick's sporting goods, FishingWorld, and Barlow's Tackle within a 20 minute drive from where I live.

With Barlow's I can call in an order from the catalog, then just swing by and pick it up on my way home from work.

Makes it so hard to resist the bait monkey...

Since last time I fished with Burley, I can't find my favorite pair of fishing underwear.   :-/

I needed something to wipe down the boat.  And clean up your mess on the back deck.

Ok thanks for the tips! Have any of you guys ever gotten your identity stolen from buying on the internet? That is probably my biggest fear  ;). And are there really better deals by buying on the internet?

Green Top outside of Ashland, Virginia

Bass Pro Shop outside of Ashland, Virginia

Castaways south of Richmond on Jeff Davis Highway

Mail order for MegaStrike and ***

Today I picked up an old Rat-L-Trap at an antique store and have purchased a few old baits from antique stores in the past.

Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft from Cabella's via mail order.

That't about it.  ;)

I have never personally ordered online, but I know a ton of people on this site do, and I haven't heard one complaint of identity theft from any of them. :D

Buying online is the way to go. No sale tax in most cases and you can always get a better price.

Thats true for price BUT I like to support the local guys as much as possible. They provide the latest info on all the baits and lakes around here. They know where to go and what to throw. They also need our business to compete with the big boys.

Don't get me wrong, I order stuff online and love Academy but I try to buy all my specialty baits at these local places.

I order most of my stuff.  That is because I have to due to not having any selection around here.
