Lucky Craft question

Recommended Posts

I'm seriously considering trying a Lucky Craft pointer, but at the price, I want to be sure I make an educated purchase.  My local Gander Mtn. and Dick's both stock a few. Not many colors or styles but a few.  Specifically I was looking at the 100SP pointer in either Aurora Black or 100SP female

Bluegill.  They also had a 78SP female bluegill.  I don't see the bluegill listed on L.C. website, so maybe the bluegill is old or new.

Has anyone used either of these colors/patterns?  Do you recommend the 100 or the 78?

100 in green, but be patient, they come on sale all the time.

I've bought them as low as $5, but would guess my average

price is around $10.

Are they as productive as I've been led to believe or do they, like other lures, have a time and a place.  If they are more productive, say than Rapala, what makes them so?

What sets LC lures apart:

Highest quality components and finish

"True" performance right out of the box and forever

"User Friendly" balance which keeps them from fouling

Proven to be consistantly productive

This is a must have. I would look at the auction site and try to find a Pointer 100SP. You can pick them up for around $10.  I would pick one of the classic LC colors like Am Shad, Ghost (my favorite), Aurora Black, or Chart Shad.  While your at it pick up a Lucky Craft Staycee too :o

At my local dicks they have like 2 or 3 Lucky Craft lures for only 10 dollars and in one color. The pointer 100SP in aurora black was only 10 but it was the only color for that cheap.

My local tackle store stocks them but at fifteen bucks a pop couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger.  I did find two on Ebay that I got for 20 shipped to my door.  You can find them on ebay at fairly good prices, be patient and you could probably get them cheaper than I did.

Definitely a must have. The only colors I have ever needed are ghost minnow and chartreuse shad. If you only have the cash to buy one or two I would get 100s, they're a good all around size. Although, if you like catching huge smallmouth, 128s are absolutely killer.

Ghost minnow, Pearl Ayu and Baitfish silver are my 3 best colors. Size depends on the average size of the fish in your area? I like the 78sp because the average SM wher I fish are only like 12".

i've been fishing jerkbaits for about the past month almost exclusively bc thats what the fish want.  I have always caught fish on them this time of the year.  I have learned that you need several kinds of jerkbaits.

Some days pointers out produce all others. But at other times bass want a more erratic action like the X Rap.  IMO both baits are a must have. The LC baits aren't magic but they run true and the paint holds up better than most. However, I believe the X Rap has those same characteristics.

Believe it or not, the most productive jerkbait I used all week was an H2O Express made for Academy sports. This thing was on fire yesterday and out fished all others!

Bottom line is that the pointer is a must and so is the X rap. :o

I think Hawgchaser sumed up my thoughts on the Pointer, if you were only to get one I would try the 100 in the Ghost minnow or Ghost Sunfish. As already mentioned Chartreuse Shad & Aurora are also great colors.

I have been a huge Pointer fan over the years.  However, I picked up a couple of the new Spro's McStick jerbaits and I love em.  They cast like a bullet, have extremely shark Gamakatsu hooks, great paint jobs, and they are $4-$5 cheaper than a Pointer.  I really like the shape better than the Pointer.  It's more of a minnow tapered look as opposed to the 100 Pointer boxey head.

You can't go wrong with either one.
