My first choice would either a bone or clear colored Pop-R or Tiny Torpedo, a Rocket Shad spinner bait would also be a good choice.

that reminds me catt i need to get a pop r dont have one yet what should i get 1st the bone color or other?

A Torpedo or small walking bait like a Spitting Image, but if they don't hit it right away a small chrome/blue Trap, Little George, or a white or bluegill colored grub on a leadhead.  If one doesn't work one of the others usually will.

It depends on the size of the shad they are chasing. My choices are:

small shad:

Tiny torpedoe

1/4 oz ratt-l-trap

flukes

small spoons

in-line spinner

large shad:

Super Spook

1/2 oz ratt-l-trap

large spoons

All baits are lighter colored, ie. chrome, pearl, white, etc.

A lot of times they will be white bass or hybrids (at least around here).

same thing happend tome this weekend and i used a white terminator silver 4.25 blade and gold 3.5 blade and i caught a few nices ones this weekend and two weekends ago..they were eating threadfin shad.

i was out early this weekend, and the same thing happend. I tried a pop r and a rapala skitter pop, also a buzz bait but no takers. Maybe I needed a smaller lure, or just to work on my technique.

I use a net with a long handle.  When they jump near the boat I catch them in the net.  This decreases the mortality rate for these fish to nearly zero, since they aren't being hooked and aren't wearing themselves out fighting on the way back to the boat.   8-)

Bone is an excellent choice when shad are present; clear is good when bass don't want a specific color they will instead strike at the movement of the prop. The Strike King Rocket Shad Spinner Bait is outstanding on schooling bass and during late fall; even in their 3/8 oz model it"s quite small.

A pearl or shad fluke.  I know when stripers are schooling and chasing around baitfish the smaller ones are at the top and the big guys are at the bottom getting the easy stuff.

Anyone know if the this is the same for lmb/smb?
