Hmmmmmmm. Sounds pretty good to me especially #3.

huh i wonder what that means for gander mtn and B.A.S.S

I knew that Gander Mntn was selling Tracker boats now but didn't know that they were up for sell.  Should be intresting on both fronts.

Wait, I though you were joking BassChaser, right?  You are joking right? WHATS GOING ON! :-?

I highly dispute #1.  I won't give out my sources, but suffice it to say that I know the people who would make this decision, and it's not true.

I was just at Wal-Mart yesterday and they were working on restocking all there fishing tackle. Even had new reels. They had 3 different types of Pinnacle baitcaster which I don't think they carried previously.

First I'd heard about #2 and 3.

Sweet :) If they put a BPS where the Gander Mountain is by me, that put it only an hour away.

Walmart is in fact cutting back on sponsorship money and what it sponsors now. They are not cutting back on what they sell in stores, if anything they are increasing quality of what fishing stuff they carry.

With that fact in mind, I really doubt #3. I just dont see it working.

They need to Academy out sold Bass Pro last year and that is fact I read it at our monthly last week.

Academy net income for 2006 $2.68 billion

Wal-mart is "phasing" it out.  It won't be an overnight thing but rest assured...

Gander IS selling the Nitro Brand as we speak--Nitro is a Bass Pro Brand.

YES--Wal-Mart is Phasing out the Fishing Stuff and The Gun Stuff.

The FLW Tour is also going away as Johnny Morris hired the head of FLW to run B.A.S.S.

Facts--Just the Facts 8-)

Wal-Mart is ABSOLUTELY not quiting on there fishing section.  Over the past few weeks, I have seen all 5 local Wal-Mart's increase there tackle qauntity and qaulity.

I would say that Johnny buying Gander is a good possibility.  Or atleast a partnership has been formed.

I have no idea if B.A.S.S. is being bought by Johnny, but the FLW comment is false

I work at walmart part time...we no longer sell guns at my store.  As for the fishing end, we just re-did our mods and it seems to me that we are expanding our fishing section.  The hunter stuff has a much smaller section but they are changing stores to fit the community.  So if your walmart is in the middle of a city...it may be getting rid of both hunting and fishing.  Who knows, only time will tell.

To me it sounds like Wal-Mart is maybe hand picking which stores or regions to sell tackle.  I know my local Wal-Mart has cut down there fishing stuff by half over the winter and when I was in there a few weeks ago an employee said they were going to cut it in half again.  Sounds like other ones are actually expanding??

maybe they are fulfilling the last of their buying contracts and/or selling off what the had ordered before the final decision was made.

Gander was just about to build a store here.....hopefully that still carries through and I'll have a BPS close to me.....I've been dreaming of THAT for a LONG time.

ABA will own Bass. It's already a done deal. Any wagers out there. 8-)

That's funny, I was thinking about buying BASS ;D

I'll take some of that wager sir - ABA buying BASS. That's about like Bob's Hardware Store in Lousville KY, "with four stores in the greater Louisville area to serve you" buying WalMart.

ABA is a nice organization, but I seriously doubt they have the financial backing or organizational capacity to run BASS. Let's see how they do running the weekend series first. I bet they have a whopping 25 boats for the opener in our area this week.

Jnamo,

Dang it!  I was gonna buy B.A.S.S. but I guess you beat me to it.  I guess I'll just buy NASA instead, then I can make money by selling rides on the Space Shuttle :)

Hillbilly

Interesting(#1)...That would explain what I have seen at my local WalMart. They have down sized the tackle/hunting section from around 4 1/2 aisles to 2 aisles and 1/2 of one aisle is all clearance stuff. They only have a few rods and reels left and most are on clearance.

They have no guns and very little hunting supplies(clothes, calls, ammo, etc)

BaitMonkey wonders why this is happening... :-[  (Bass Pro is so far away) :'(

As for #2 and #3 I can only see things getting better  :)

If I invested a dime on every "insider" tip I've ever heard,

I wouldn't have a nickel

That's funny, I was thinking about buying BASS ;D

Oh man,...that's funny.

You snooze, you lose.
