Hello all....

Well I think winter (at least Fall) has settled into new England. Will it stay? Who knows? What was it Mark Twain said about New England weather?? Anyway I have been talking to others in the forum who bass fish in New England ALL WINTER!!! As long as there is no ice they will be out there. (January Mike?? lol) I was wondering how many other die hard bassers are out there. Is it time to light the fireplace and dream of the pre-spawn, or is it time to buy Goretex and have at it?? Opinions, comments, discussions anyone???

In Rhodey now, its all about the Gore-tex, Jigs, Husky Jerks, Rat-L-Traps, and the ???? Pond @ the Park! Not too mention being able to sleep late or until it warms up to 38* anyway. Cant wait to get a bass in the boat with a few inches of snow on the deck  

I'm going to make an attempt at ice fishing with the stuff I got for bass.  I'm trying to find tutorials on other ways to break through ice w/o the drilling equipment.  If its too dangerous I'm going to take a big stick or rock and break through from shore.  Any unfrozen water is fishing water to me.

Here in the Deep South its cold windy rainy winters but I still chunk-n-reel; while you may not catch quantities you will catch quality.

No sleeping in, dreaming of pre-spawn for me.  Here in cali we don't have to worry about ice, so it's year round fun for us.

Only thing slowing me down is this time change thing. Gettin' dark way to early. :'(

yea same here, i hear bassfishin in cold weather isnt bad but i was told u have to have alot more patience than you do in the warmer months but it pays off i hear

Hey Mikey, if there's ice on the spool, I'm going back to the house   Unless of course those new rods come in first   Maybe this year I'll bring the kerosene heater out on the boat......

I try and get out every weekend as long as the lakes are not iced up.

That's what they make winter gear for. This weekend I'll be fishing the Titabawassee River for smallies. I'll be wearing my bibs and parka. It's no different than deer hunting.....well maybe a little different.

Last year here in MA we were fishing open water all the way thru the 1st. week in January. And there are angers here that fish the CT River all winter long; with chains and 4x4 used to launch. Their catches are nothing short of phenominal. Today, the morning temp. was only 20 degrees however. Looks we won't be as lucky as last season

Yup...low and slow...but that's my forte, so I'm happy! I'm fortunate to live in the South! I'm on a bank or in the boat once or twice a week even in JAN and FEB. If I COULDN'T then I WOULD go crazy!

October to April is my favorite time. Gortex, layers,  the largest bass of the year, and few crowds.

Ah, thank goodness for power plant lakes!

I have five lakes all within two or so hours from my house.  All of them will have 70+ degree water somewhere on them even in the dead of winter.  Nothing like a buzzbait in a snow shower. 8-)

I fish all winter unless the lake freezes but this happens only once every few years. Nothing more rewarding then catching bass in those cold months!

Bingo....with my weekends being very busy the weekdays have been my main times of fishing. But when I don't get out of work until 4pm and the sun goes down at 5pm.....I have no chance to fish. Stinks. Even if I left my house at 4:15 it takes me a good 20 minutes to get settled at my spot. Not even worth it with gas prices these days.

I love the winter.

Of course living in South Florida this takes on a different meaning than is likely for the rest of you.

But hey, It's winter and I fish.     :-*

I prefer to fish in the winter myself.   I really can't explain why I do, I guess its just the challenge of catching fish when most say there not biteing.   Also I don't have to worry about snakes is a plus

Fish on baby, fish on. No offseason for me.

Plus up north you can catch fish like crazy either pitching a jig or burning a rat-l-trap, my 2 favorties ways to fish

It was 28 degrees here in Tallahassee this morning.  Where's that global warming I was promised?

I live in AR, so no iced over lakes.

But...."drum roll please"....

I still don't fish. (much)

Call me a tree hugger, a vegitarian, PETA associate, or whatever you want.  The winter gives me a break and keeps me from getting "burnt out".  It's also hunting season, so my focus shifts there...
