fishing log

Featured Replies

Does any one here keep a fishing log? What do you keep in it?  I recently started. I have started with date, location, outside temp, water temp, windy, cloudy or clear, time of day, what lure and presentation.

I used to do this when fly fishing. I could literally almost time hatches to the day. I want to know what your experiences are. Its all a bought getting better. 8-)

I keep a fishing journal too.  I put the date, time, weather, water conditions + temp, # of fish, and what I was getting them on.  I also keep one for fly fishing.  I've been doing mine for three years now.  Its cool to look back and compare and its also a big help when deciding where to go and what patterns to fish.

Make sure you write down what the weather was like in the days prior to your fishing...This can be a huge factor sometimes!!!

Hey everyone should chaeck this out. I started using it this year so I dont have alot of data, however it will lay out charst and graphs of your outings based on patterns and everything. And it is all free. Take some time and check out some of the samples. You can also post (or not your catches to the net. It will auto. e-mail your fishing partners as well. It is really cool

I have to post a couple more times to be able to add the link

cool site paragon. I think I should log the moon phases to.

Go to the top of this website. Under tackle box is a printable fishing log. You just fill it out. It works real good for me.

Paragon - tks for the awesome recommendation!  What a cool site!  I just created a paper version for logging results, but I don't really understand Excel well enough to make it give me back results like I would like to! Low and behold - it looks like Swami does all the "dirty work" for you...and free, to boot !

Welcome to the site, and thanks so much for posting Swami to this forum!  Tight Lines...

I've been using this for over 17 years.  Created it myself back then, tweaked a little after using it, and then made it available for everyone when I built this site.

Thanks Paragon, that looks like a very cool site. I will have to try it out.

Great Log Glenn, I tweaked it for my own use and it is very helpful 8-)

I have been using this log this year and love it.  I have saved the log as a GIF file on my computer.  When I open it up with MS Picture Manager I can print out 4 copies to a sheet of paper using the 3.5X5 in cutout prints selection .  I then fold it up and put the log and a pen in my shirt pocket and make entries as I go throughout the fishing day.  After I have four trips on the sheet, I transfer it over to a larger log sheet for future reference. I carry a few blank spares and pens in my tackle box in case I forget to throw one in my pocket.

Thanks Paragon, that website looks great

I keep a a small recorder in my tackle back and talk in it throughout the day. Then when i get home i've been transfering to a log. But i think i'll be using fishswami from now on

Glenn - I'm not sure if I've ever taken the time to actually say "Thank You" to you for all of your hard work and dedication in building and maintaining this site...for free !  Like most, I suppose, I log in every day (most days it's multiple times !!), and I guess I kinda take for granted all the efforts that have gone into making this site as strong and successful as it is.

So...here it is....a GREAT BIG, PUBLIC...THANK YOU !!   ;D  ;D

With that being said, I also built upon your idea and tweaked the log a little bit.  Is there a way that I could share it with you and/or the other members of the forum that might have an interest in using it?  I have it saved on my PC as a Word doc file (Word 2007).  I think that it could be used in the "field" to record observations and statistics, and then when you return home, you could record the data into a program like Swami so that it could "crunch" the data for you, so to speak.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.   Thanks and Tight Lines !  Jeff

I kept a log on my computer for the first 3 months this year. But it got to be too much so I just gave it up. Too many 2-4lb fish to write about.

Now I only enter it in the log if the fish is over 5lbs.

I write the Date / Weight / Location / Bait

Isn't it!

For a while I was fishing 5-6 days a week, it got to be too much coming home every night and writing it down!
